The Archdiocese of Miami Pastoral Center, located in Miami Shores, Florida, has an opening for a full-time Accounting Supervisor. The primary responsibility for this position is the supervision of accounting staff who provide bookkeeping services to client entities. The Accounting Supervisor provides these services in an effective, appropriate, and timely manner to ensure accurate and up-to-date finances and processing of accounting functions. Primary duties are staff management, data entry, advising departments, administration of accounting policies and technical procedures, exercising professional discretion within the parameters of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and providing customer service. The Accounting Supervisor performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.

Schedule: 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Provides financial & administrative services for the Pastoral Center, the central office which supports the Archbishop of Miami in administering services to archdiocesan churches, schools, and other entities.
  • Assist the Director of Finance on financial statements preparation and consolidation.
  • Meet with entity administrators to evaluate the accounting and payroll in place and make recommendations regarding the scope of services to be offered.
  • Consult with Human Resources for input on labor related payroll issues.
  • Provide technical accounting and Connect Now support to Archdiocesan entities; identify issues if any and recommend/ implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in the preparation of budget and financial forecasts for parishes and schools.
  • Facilitate auditing process for parishes and schools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; or MBA with specialization in accounting; CPA a plus.
  • Three years’ professional-level experience. Minimum one-year supervisory experience.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills, including clear speaking voice.
  • Good Spanish spoken communication skills strongly preferred; Haitian-Creole a plus.
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable and general ledger.
  • GAAP and accounting practices.
  • Modern office procedures and practices, including recordkeeping and data security methods.
  • Familiarity of principles and practices on not-for profit accounting preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency and experience in maintaining confidentiality concerning financial and contributors files.
  • Knowledge and experience in principles and practices of supervision of personnel.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel are required.
  • Good computer literacy, including ability to navigate online applications and search engines effectively.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including ability to maintain focus on and professionalism with people in challenging situations, both in person and by phone.
  • Good time management, including ability to manage several projects at the same time with accuracy.
  • Supportive of the mission and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church; Experience in a Roman Catholic environment a plus.
  • Must have a professional demeanor.
