QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

 

1. Bachelor’s degree in music required; Master’s degree in Organ Performance or Sacred Music preferred.

 

2. Superior keyboard skills – both organ & piano.

 

3. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accompanying techniques and performance skills on the piano and organ.

 

4. Fluency (or strong familiarity) with canonic organ repertoire & the ability to work with, and across, multiple music genres.

 

5. Minimum of 2 years teaching experience with youth choirs.

 

6. Thorough understanding of vocal pedagogy.

 

7. Excellent skills in choral conducting.

 

8. Proficiency in computer skills and digital technology.

 

9. Compliant with the Church’s background checks.

 

10. Excellent “people skills” with children, youth, and adults.

 

11. A Christ-centered faith that is comfortable in the Reformed tradition.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

 

1. Perform organ music for worship services, i.e. preludes, hymns, offertories, postludes, and special music as assigned by the Minister of Music.

 

2. Be available for special services and extra seasonal services throughout the year (Holy Week, Advent, etc.)

 

3. Accompany Cathedral Choir in rehearsals, services, and concerts.

 

4. Accompany additional rehearsals leading up to concerts.

 

5. Accompany other ensembles of the church as assigned by the Minister of Music.

 

6. Provide adequate practice time for, and preparation of service music, hymns, and accompaniments.

 

7. Direct Chapel Singers (Grades 6 to 8), hold weekly rehearsals, and have the Chapel Singers sing in worship once per month. Work in conjunction with the church’s Youth Group. Oversee annual musical. Direct effective communication with the parents of the children.

 

8. Direct the Kirk Singers (grades 9 to 12), hold weekly rehearsals, and have them sing regularly in worship. Work in conjunction with the church’s Youth Group. Oversee the annual musical, provide leadership with annual Tour.

 

9. Form Youth Handchime Choir. Rehearse weekly and play in worship for special occasions.

 

10. Implement a music education curriculum into rehearsals including basic theory, ear-training, sight-reading, & musicianship.

 

11. Assist with administration of Concert Series.

 

12. Lead community outreach initiatives for youth choirs.

 

13. Initiate other recruiting efforts inside & outside the church.

 

14. Assist and support the Minister of Music in all aspects of the total music and worship ministry of the church, including but not limited to administrative duties such as library maintenance, database maintenance, organizing music & paperwork for instrumentalists, keeping choir attendance records, lead recruitment efforts, and coordinating contracts for guest artists on Concert Series.

 

15. Provide music for weddings & funerals (additional compensation), or secure an adequate substitute.

 

16. Rehearse with and accompany guest artists/soloists for concerts, services, weddings, & funerals.

 

17. Serve as the main point of contact for organ maintenance, tuning, servicing, and approval of guest organists.

 

18. Collaborate with Minister of Music on all aspects of worship and music life including planning services, planning music, and the arts.

 

19. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or the Senior Pastor.

 

 

 

 

 

ORGAN SPECS

 

· The original 1964 Moller organ & console was rebuilt & revoiced in 1988 by Guzowski & Steppe Organ Builders. 18 digital Walker voices were added between 1998-2001.

 

· Separate document with complete organ specs. available by request.

 

 

 

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

 

 

 

The Associate Director of Music reports to the Minister of Music. He/she shall be responsible to the Pastor/Head of Staff, and the Session through the Personnel Team.

 

 

 

EVALUATION

 

 

 

The Associate Director of Music shall be evaluated annually by the Minister of Music and the Head of Church Staff in consultation with the Personnel Team.
