The Campus Ministry department at Barry University seeks a full time Coordinator of Worship and Music Ministry Outreach .

The Coordinator of Worship and Music Outreach assists the University Chaplain, the Director of Campus Ministry, the Campus Ministry staff, and the Barry University community, in carrying out the Mission of the Department of Campus Ministry, by developing, directing and assessing a vibrant, student-centered Catholic, ecumenical, and interfaith liturgical, worship and music ministry program. The Coordinator of Worship and Music Outreach promotes the recruitment, development, education and formation of students and staff for liturgical, sacramental, religious and worship events within the Department of Campus Ministry and other areas of the Barry community (e.g. Department of Theology and Philosophy, Residence Life, Center for Student Involvement, etc.).

This full-time, exempt position serves an eleven-month period (August 1 – June 30).

Essential Functions

Coordinates, leads and evaluates Worship for Campus Ministry, and the Barry University, when applicable:

Facilitates preparation, planning and implementation for Catholic worship, including Weekday Mass, Sunday Mass, Christmas Mass, Easter Triduum Liturgies, Holy Days of Obligation, and Divisional and University celebrations of the Eucharist (e.g. Mass of the Holy Spirit, Founder's Day Mass and Baccalaureate Masses, etc.). Includes set-up/clean-up for Masses and events (when appropriate, with assistance from members of the liturgical planning team, sacristans and acolytes);

Facilitates preparation, planning and implementation for ecumenical and interfaith worship events that reflect our culturally and spiritually diverse student body, in communication with the University Chaplain and liturgy/worship preparation team;

Recruits, trains, schedules, oversees and evaluates Liturgical Ministers (e.g. Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Sacristans, Acolytes, Hospitality Ministers, etc.) for weekday Mass, Sunday Mass and other special events/celebrations;

Publicizes worship events for the Barry community, and when appropriate, in collaboration with Campus Ministry Administrative Assistant, Marketing Department, and the Division of Mission and Student Engagement;

Actively seeks collaboration and participation of students, student groups and organizations, and Barry personnel in worship events;

Serves as liturgical resource for the Campus Ministry team by keeping the team updated on liturgical issues, policies, rituals, and publications, which come from the USCCB, the Archdiocese and other sources.

Provides leadership, planning and coordination, as a resource or lead person for Divisional and University worship events, including student groups to provide planning, preparation, coordination and leadership of other Catholic, ecumenical, interreligious, or university worship and ritual events (e.g. Praise and Worship, Festival of Nations, Seder Meal, Founders' Week Prayer Service, etc.):

Serves as the lead person or resource person for Campus Ministry, Division of Mission and Student Engagement, and University in worship events.

Actively seeks collaboration and participation in Worship events with students, student groups and organizations, and members of the Barry community.

Oversees the coordination and participation of liturgical/worship planning team, volunteers, and participants in these events, when applicable.

Oversees and supervises the Music Ministry and Outreach program for Campus Ministry, under the direction of the Director of Campus Ministry.:

Supervises and evaluates Music Minister(s) as Chair of the Liturgical Planning Team, including submission of time sheets, where applicable;

Oversees the selection, education and formation of the Student Music Ministry interns;

Chairs the selection committee for the Student Ministry program, in collaboration with other areas (e.g. Music Department), under the direction of the Director of Campus Ministry;

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Campus Ministry.

Carries out other essential responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Campus Ministry :

Participates at regular staff meetings, and one on one meetings with supervisor, and other departmental events, as requested;

Works with the Administrative Assistant and the Director of Campus Ministry to coordinate use, care and maintenance of the Chapel.

Works with the Administrative Assistant to order supplies, subscriptions, and other area needs affecting budget matters, as discussed with the Director of Campus Ministry.

Participates at worship-related Divisional and University events as requested by supervisor, Vice-President for Mission and Student Engagement, or the Office of the President;

Participates in Committee or Task Force work, or other special assignments as directed by the Director of Campus Ministry, the Vice-President of the Division of Mission and Student Engagement, or the Office of the President.

Qualifications/Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in any discipline is preferred.

1-3 years of experience as a Music/Minister Coordinator or similar position.

3-5 years of experience as a Music/Minister Coordinator in a Catholic setting may substitute the educational requirement.

Must have excellent communication skills

Must possess musical skills
