St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, in Kendall area within Miami, Florida is looking to hire a full-time Maintenance/ Custodial Person. This position is responsible for the execution of tasks that support the operations, maintenance, repair, and improvement of the building and surrounding grounds. Its responsibilities include but are not limited to setup and breakdown of furnishings for events; basic building and repair, installation of fencing, doors, basic plumbing, painting, and structural repairs, lighting, and minor repair A/C and changing A/C filters. The candidate ensures that the facilities appearance is a positive one. The Maintenance/Custodial Person adheres to procedures to provide a safe working environment including complying with OSHA, state, local and federal laws as well as policies of the Archdiocese of Miami. The candidate performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.
Schedule: 40 hours/week with benefits. Employee may need to be available after hours (working nights and weekend) on an as-needed basis.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Property upkeep of multiple areas such as grounds by watering plants and light gardening, and pressure cleaning driveways, pathways, and other areas according to maintenance schedule.
- Sweeping, mopping, disinfecting all designated areas.
- Replenishing soap and paper products and cleaning mirrors, doors, and bathroom stalls.
- Dusting, finishing, and buffing floors, and vacuuming and shampooing carpets.
- Maintenance such as changing light bulbs, light plumbing, light carpentry repairs, painting, drywall repair and checking A/C and changing filters.
- Dusting all windowsills using treated cloths or hand cleaning items.
- Washing walls and windows as needed.
- Frequently removing dust and debris from high and low surfaces.
- Removing litter and trash from inside and outside areas and buildings using bins.
- Cleaning classrooms, emptying out trash receptacles, and taking waste to designated area.
- Observing appearance and condition of premises and applicable equipment; reporting any needed repairs, safety hazards, or conditions requiring outside vendor for services.
- Reporting maintenance concerns via work order requests to the immediate supervisor.
- Prioritizing assignments, while managing several projects at the same time.
- Cleaning A/C ceiling vents, clean fixtures using soapy water or other disinfectant cleaners (using a step ladder when applicable).
- Dusting and polishing furniture in the Church.
- Keeping Custodial Storage areas clean and organized.
- Cleaning parish kitchen floors, pantry, and refrigerator.
- Purchasing supplies and tools with prior approval once a week, being cost-conscious and providing receipts to the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High-school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Valid Florida driver license and automobile insurance for performing some duties.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving of the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Ability to use hands and arms in installing, positioning, moving, and manipulating objects, and to work outdoors as required, in hot and humid environment, as well as high places.
- Use of personal protective clothing, according to tasks.
- Able to stand for significant periods of time.
- Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of janitorial service and maintenance.
- Good oral and written English communication skills.
- Must have a respectable and professional demeanor.
