St. Andrew's Church, Palmetto Bay, Florida, is in search of a Music/Choir Director. The

candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Music or higher, knowledge of Episcopal

liturgy, worship, music and experience with church choirs. The candidate should be

able to work well with volunteer and professional singers, an accompanist, as well as

clergy, church staff, and parishioners of all ages. This is a part-time position involving

music planning and preparation, a weeknight choir rehearsal, and one service on

Sunday mornings at 10:00, preceded by a warm-up and short rehearsal. Extra services

include Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and an additional service on

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

· The Music Director will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust and inspiring music program in accordance with the liturgical and worship tradition of the Episcopal Church.

· A major component of the job will be to prepare music and lead the choir at 10 am Sunday worship services.

Other responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Cultivate congregational singing as a vital part of our music ministry and worship.

· Foster and coordinate a volunteer and professional choir, with weekly rehearsals. Currently, these rehearsals are on Thursdays at 7:30 pm.

· Work with the clergy and lay leaders to organize and lead the music for special services and music programs. These include services on Christmas Eve (two), Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and Easter (two).

· Plan and choose service music with the rector.

· Lead worship music in an artful way, from a spiritually prepared heart, that boosts both the choir and congregation in their faith.

· Assist handbell choir and handbell choir director.

· Manage music library.

· Maintain music budgets by communicating regularly with the bookkeeper.

· Supervise one organist and four section leaders, hiring them with the rector, and facilitating their payroll with the bookkeeper.

· Oversee hospitality for other choirs, recitalists, or chamber artists using church space.

· Serve as the first point of contact for any questions related to the church’s music programs.

REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, in Music.

· Knowledge of the Episcopal liturgy and worship would be considered advantageous.

· Experience with developing church choirs, both volunteer and professional.

· Extensive organizational and planning skills.

· Earnest desire to build a long-term music program ministry.

· Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of groups and individuals, including clergy, staff, and parishioners, of various ages, as well as other local organizations and professionals.

COMPENSATION

· This is a part-time position. The salary is approximately $ 15,000 a year.
