Academy of Mount St. Ursula in Bronx welcomes new principal

The Academy of Mount St. Ursula in the Bronx, New York City, has recently welcomed its new principal.

According to an article from the Catholic New York, Geraldine Lavery was announced publicly as the new principal of the Academy of Mount St. Ursula by the school board of trustees. 

In a statement of JoAnn Stonier, search committee chair, she said that they are proud of their decision to choose Lavery after the selection process among the most qualified applicants, as reported.

Lavery reportedly said that she was grateful for the opportunity given to her by the school board to serve and lead the Academy of Mount St. Ursula as the new principal.

She also said that she would use the chance to deepen her learnings and experiences following the qualities of an Ursuline education and tradition, as reported.

Accordingly, Lavery already had experience in serving as a principal, for she reportedly served as a principal at the Good Shepherd School in Manhattan for seven years.

Also, she was an administrator and educator at St. Jean Baptiste High School for 18 years. She had served 25 years in total in the Archdiocese of New York, as reported.

The new principal is reportedly from Northern Ireland. She was a scholar of the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Heart from primary education to secondary, as reported.

She graduated from an all-girls Catholic school from primary to secondary. She took her bachelor's education at Queen's University in Belfast with a degree in religious studies and had her master's degree also in religious studies at St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie.

As per its website, the Academy of Mount St. Ursula is reportedly a private Catholic preparatory school exclusively for girls located at 330 Bedford Park Blvd., in the Bronx, New York.

The school was reportedly the oldest running Catholic girls' high school in New York that was founded in 1855 by the Ursuline Sisters.
