Holy Family Catholic School seeks an experienced guidance counselor to facilitate academic progress and emotional development of the the students. This contracted position will be responsible for working with teachers, administration and parents in identifying students in need of counseling. Counselor will also be responsible for weekly classroom lessons focusing on a wide range of topics, especially socioemotional learning.

In order to facilitate student academic progress and emotional development, the Counselor will:

  • Support and supplement the work of the classroom teachers.
  • Help students develop and maintain normal growth and developmental patterns of behavior and achievement.
  • Identify potential problems so that they can receive early attention.
  • Give direct assistance to those students having difficulties in the area of learning and adjustment.
  • Assist parents to understand normal growth and development patterns of students and deviations in behavior from normality.
  • Work with new students to help them adjust to the new school environment.
  • Work with students having learning or behavioral problems.
  • Provide feedback to teachers that will assist & support them in dealing with particular situations.
  • Make referrals when necessary, in conjunction with the parents and in consultation with the teachers and Principal.
  • Meet with the Principal or Assistant Principal on a weekly basis.
  • Provide individual or group counseling to students & complete necessary paperwork.
  • To be school coordinator of all testing programs: Terra Nova Testing, ACRE Testing (Assessment of Catholic Religious Education), New Student Evaluation.
  • PK & K Testing
  • Student observations as needed
  • Lunchroom duties
  • Parent to Parent contact person
  • Parent contact, phone calls and meetings as needed.
  • Any other duty seen fit by the principal, including substituting for an absent teacher when needed.

. Requirements:

  • The candidate should hold a Master's degree from an accredited college or university and have completed an approved guidance and counseling program.
  • The candidate should be certified in Guidance and Counseling through the State of Florida or be eligible for certification.
  • To be familiar with and supportive of the educational philosophy of the school and the Diocese of Orlando
  • Applicants who are practicing Catholics and have prior experience in Catholic education are preferred.
  • Employment is contingent on the applicant passing a full background check.
  • Upon employment, the individual will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
