Description

Clinically trained minister responsible for leading and implementing strategic plans and system objectives in providing spiritual and psychosocial care to our primary customers and team members. Ensures the proper staffing, equipping and training of chaplains for all clinical and non-clinical areas in the campus. Promotes chaplains’ proper participation as a member of the healthcare team in evaluating spiritual needs of patients, employees and families while providing appropriate interventions to meet such needs. Fosters a sense of mission that enhances a culture of Trust, experience of Belonging, and a future of Hope within the hospital and the healthcare team. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops a pastoral care plan for patients and employees by identifying objectives, interventions and desired outcomes
Available for on-call duty (nights, weekends, holidays) as scheduled by the Director of Pastoral Care
Provides and promotes ongoing emotional and spiritual care to employees through staff rounding, supportive activities and documentation
Communicates appropriate information to the interdisciplinary team through appropriate charting on the Spiritual Care Assessment Form in the medical record
Equips and empowers chaplains in educating the staff on the role and function of the chaplain
Facilitates community relationships for the Hospital and patient care facilities
Partners with the department of Ministry Education and Research in the formation and education of residents and interns as indicated
Performs other duties as assigned by Director/Mission and Ministry
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides day-to-day oversight of the Pastoral Care team and assures the 24/7 in-house coverage to provide spiritual support to patient, families, and associates in times of loss, spiritual distress, or crisis
Ensures that spiritual and emotional support, sacramental ministry, and spiritual assessment is provided by appropriately trained and credentialed members of the Pastoral Care team (i.e. certified staff chaplains, on-call/per diem chaplains, ordained clergy, and community clergy)
Provides day-to-day oversight of the Pastoral Care team and assures the 24/7 in-house coverage to provide spiritual support to patient, families, and associates in times of loss, spiritual distress, or crisis
Assist in leadership of all activities related to selection, training, development and supervision of staff, including performance management, workload distribution, and coaching and skill development
Provides feedback on clinical skills to assure clinical competency and quality. Reviews the clinical competency of chaplains on an annual basis
Encourages and supports chaplains who are seeking board certification to ensure they are doing so according to established timelines in order to meet credentialing requirements
Creates opportunities for chaplains working within service lines to share best practices
Partners with Patient Experience and other relevant departments to ensure improvement opportunities in the Pastoral Care department
Functions within a 70/30 framework of managerial duties and patient care, respectively
Ensures that all referrals from members of the healthcare team are followed up within 24 hours
Ensures that chaplains participate as integrated members of the interdisciplinary team and work collaboratively (patient-care rounds, ethics consultation, family consultation, etc.) to meet the psychosocial and spiritual needs of patients and their family members

Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Ability demonstrate leadership qualities and to earn respect of nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED
HR Leadership training
Self-motivated and good organization skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Master of Divinity degree
Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
Congregational pastoral experience
Residency accredited by Association for Clinical Pastoral Education
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED
Endorsement by Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries, and Board eligible with Association of Professional Chaplains
Seventh-day Adventist ministerial credential or license
Ordination/licensure as minister in good standing with the Seventh-day Adventist Church
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED
Board Certification with the Association of Professional Chaplains
