Description:
Brain Fitness Academy at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park serves individuals experiencing early memory loss related to mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, and other forms of dementia. Enrolled members meet twice a week during a 14-week semester, participating in activities that exercise the mind and body.

Position worked closely with volunteer and paid staff and collaborated with community partners in the coordination, implementation, and management of ministry program activities, communications, and participation. Some evening and weekend work hours will be required. This position is part-time.

Primary position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

  • Promotes a positive, respectful, and supportive environment for program participants, their families, guests, and volunteers;
  • Coordinates the administrative and functional planning of program activities, events, and initiatives, including curriculum and materials, logistical and financial considerations, advertising and communications, and safety compliance;
  • Supports program lay teams and staff, including oversight of student interns, providing coaching and discipleship as appropriate, identifying and empowering colleagues, and supporting training and development initiatives;
  • Coordinates communication and information flow regarding program activities, staffing needs, scheduling, and registration to participants, their families, the Church, and community as required or appropriate;
  • Serves as the administrative contact for the program ministry, providing proactive and timely communication and information to program staff, volunteers, and participants;
  • Conducts program participant interviews and assessments before enrollment and as appropriate;
  • Facilitates program sessions and related activities by Brain Fitness Academy standards, occupational health and safety guidelines, and campus operational procedure;
  • Coordinates program financial administration, including budget management, fundraising, grant and resource allocation, and expense reporting;
  • Ensures appropriate training, background check, and safety procedures are followed, ensuring volunteers of the program are adequately vetted prior to program participation;
  • Organizes all aspects of program-related meetings, events, and functions, including records management, logistical arrangements, calendar coordination, and attendance;
  • Attends and participates in Church meetings, events, and functions, as requested or directed;
  • Assists in the coordination of program marketing and communication, ensuring message suitability and compliance with internal standards and guidelines;
  • Liaises with community groups, governmental or regulatory agencies, and other Church missions and ministries for partnership and outreach purposes;
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries while cultivating healthy professional relationships with program participants and their families;
  • Understands and supports the Church vision, mission, values, and direction, as developed and communicated, proactively participating as a member of the Church staff team;
  • Other as deemed necessary by Church leadership.

Note that qualifications may be met due to lived experience, volunteer work, professional experience, and formal or informal training.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Equivalent work experience may be accepted instead of a degree.
  • A compassionate, genuine demeanor demonstrated through an authentic love of people and a passion for program participants' spiritual, physical, and emotional health and their families.
  • Previous social work, gerontology, or human services program management experience, preferably in a faith-based, public service, or non-profit organization.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to compose professional communications and adapt messages in an audience-appropriate manner.
  • Strong group facilitation and leadership skills with the ability to drive a collaborative team environment.
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to handle sensitive information and maintain the strictest confidentiality.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification.
  • Skilled in technological applications and software, internet, and mobile telecommunications programs.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time-management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous budgeting, reporting, and project management experience preferred.
