The Program Director, Development, is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and management of long-term stewardship initiatives, partnerships, and programs for the ongoing sustainability of the Church and its programming. The position effectively cultivates current and new relationships to build ministry visibility and increase financial resources. Develops and oversees the full range of activities required to expand and manage all funding streams through grant-writing, targeted appeals, donor management, and annual capital campaigns. Evening, weekend, and holiday work hours may be required. This position is a full-time, benefit-eligible opportunity.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Champions the stewardship philosophy of the Church, proactively leading the congregation toward a deeper, more spiritual understanding and commitment to faithful stewardship development and participation;
  • Partners with Church leadership and operations in the development, planning, and ongoing evaluation of comprehensive financial development strategies that refine Church-wide giving procedures, policies, and tools, ensuring member access and ease of use;
  • Participates in the formulation of long-range stewardship planning and engagement, participating in all aspects of Church financial strategy including budget management, risk analysis, and resource allocation;
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive timeline and calendar of annual campaigns, special promotions, and fundraising events on a Church-wide basis, organizing and participating in all events and initiatives and partnering with internal personnel in the design and production of promotional materials;
  • Provides ongoing assessment of stewardship strategy and development programs, regularly reviewing and evaluating campaign outcomes, practices and participation to ensure maximum effectiveness and alignment with Church initiatives, vision, and mission;
  • Establishes and manages a planned giving program that capitalizes on existing networks and relationships for increased stewardship participation and revenue generation;
  • Maintains a current knowledge of non-profit fundraising best practices, innovation, trends, and software, evaluating those standards against Church processes and making recommendations for improvement, amendment, or updating;
  • Establishes and maintains an active donor recognition program that easily translates among the congregation and within the greater Church community, and provides accountability for the continued stewardship of the relationship;
  • Builds, trains and oversees an effective volunteer network of Church members, ministry partners, and community leaders in the facilitation of stewardship education, development, and implementation;
  • Manages the stewardship administration records, reporting, and communications (including the annual giving report) in compliance with legal regulations and internal Communications guidelines, presenting all material in an audience-appropriate manner;
  • Understands and supports the Church vision, mission, and direction, as developed and communicated, proactively participating as a member of the Church Leadership team;
  • Represents the Church and denomination within the local geographical community, participating as appropriate in related forums, roundtables, conferences, and other events;
  • Other as deemed necessary by Church leadership.

. Requirements:

  • Support FUMCWP's vision, core values, and commitment to inclusion, inspired by personal faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Active, spiritually mature member of the United Methodist Church, supplemented by regular, consistent participation in the FUMC Winter Park worship congregation.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; CFRE or other related professional designation preferred.
  • Previous business or donor development and/or fundraising experience, preferably in a faith-based, public service, or non-profit organization.
  • Demonstrated success in a development role with significant donor management and organizational responsibilities, including the ability to construct, articulate, and implement an annual strategic development plan and program evaluation methodologies.
  • Understanding of lay-led discipleship and leadership within a lay staff church structure.
  • Self-directed, results-driven leader with the ability to work independently while driving an empowered, collaborative team of lay and paid staff.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to adapt messages in an audience-appropriate fashion and develop strong relationships with a wide range of backgrounds and demographics.
  • High level of discretion and emotional intelligence with the ability to handle sensitive information and maintain the strictest confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational management and analytical skills with strong critical and strategic thinking, planning, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Advanced technological skills, including computer software, internet, and mobile telecommunications programs, and applications.
  • Proactive, progressive-thinking, and positive approach and attitude.
  • Some local travel required.
