Brain Fitness Academy at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park serves individuals experiencing early memory loss related to mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, and other forms of dementia. Enrolled members meet twice a week during a 14-week semester, participating in activities that exercise the mind and body.

Position works closely with volunteer and paid staff and in collaboration with community partners in the facilitation of ministry program sessions, activities, and participation. This position is part-time.

Main position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

  • Ensures a positive, respectful and supportive environment for program participants, their families, guests and volunteers;
  • Supports the administrative and functional planning of program activities and events including curriculum and materials, logistical and financial considerations, advertising and communications, and safety compliance;
  • Collaborates with program lay teams and staff, including student interns, providing coaching as appropriate and supporting training and development initiatives;
  • Supports communication and information flow regarding program activities and scheduling to participants, their families, the Church and community as required or appropriate;
  • Supports program participant interviews and assessments prior to enrollment and as appropriate;
  • Facilitates program sessions and related activities in accordance with Brain Fitness Academy standards, occupational health and safety guidelines, and campus operational procedure;
  • Supports program financial administration, including budget management, fundraising, grant and resource allocation, and expense reporting;
  • Ensures appropriate training, background check, and safety procedures are followed, ensuring volunteers of the program are properly vetted prior to program participation;
  • Participates in Church meetings, events and functions, as requested or directed;
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries while cultivating healthy professional relationships with program participants and their families;
  • Understands and supports the Church vision, mission, values and direction, as developed and communicated, proactively participating as a member of the Church staff team;
  • Other as deemed necessary by Church leadership.

Requirements:
Note that qualifications may be met as a result of lived experience, volunteer work, professional experience, and/or formal or informal training.
 

  • Support FUMCWP’s vision , core values and commitment to inclusion, inspired by a personal faith in Jesus Christ.
  • A compassionate, genuine demeanor demonstrated through an authentic love of people and a passion for the spiritual, physical, and emotional health of program participants and their families.
  • Previous social work, gerontology or human services program facilitation experience preferred.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to compose professional communications and adapt messages in an audience-appropriate manner.
  • Strong group facilitation, and leadership skills with the ability to drive a collaborative team environment.
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to handle sensitive information and maintain the strictest confidentiality.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification.
  • Skilled in technological applications and software, internet and mobile telecommunications programs.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time-management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
