The Parish Religious Education Coordinator is responsible for the direction of a specific part of a parish’s total Religious Education Program (e.g. youth programs). The coordinator shall be responsible to the parish Director of Religious Education. In the event there is no Director, the Coordinator may function in some areas as the director. However, the coordinator is not authorized to teach catechist certification courses in theology.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
Coordinates, supervise and be a resource person for a specific program within the parish.
Recruits catechists, facilitate their Diocesan certification and provide necessary in-service training for them.
Designs curriculum and select texts and other materials from those approved by the Diocesan Secretariat for Evangelization and Family Life.
Administers and assist in the preparation of a budget.
Presents an annual evaluation of the specific program to the Director of Religious Education.
Ensures that all Diocesan policies that affect parish religious education pertinent to his/her program are implemented and adhered to.
Performs other duties as assigned.

. Requirements:
The Religious Education Coordinator is expected to have capabilities in Theology, Program Coordination, Coordination of Catechist Development, Communication and Relationships and Administration.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies or related field or equivalent experience and education as well as spiritual leadership skills.
Must have or be in process of obtaining Master Catechist Certification by the Diocesan Office of Religious Education/Secretariat for Evangelization and Family Life.
Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings.
Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church.
Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.

Organizational / Interpersonal Skills:
A high level of organizational and interpersonal skill is required. Attention to detail and working well with others is also required.

Language/Communication Skills:
Ability to read and analyze routine correspondence and compose the appropriate response.
Ability to respond effectively to common inquiries from internal sources.
Ability to effectively present reports and information.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply appropriate mathematical concepts and operations in establishing and maintaining budgets.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
