A senior accountant is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.

As part of the Diocesan Shared Accounting Services (DSAS) team, this position will be responsible to help the DSAS program accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial statement review to ensure timely and accurate reporting monthly. This position will also ensure the weekly transaction processing of accounts payable, cash receipts, and other journal entries are posted weekly on Fridays and that are both timely, and accurate.

The senior accountant – accounting position will also supervise three (3) staff accountants with hands-on support of the posting of payable invoices, payments processing, recording cash receipts, payroll journal entry preparation, bank account reconciliations, and reconciling general ledger accounts.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
General Functions

Verify, allocate, and review general ledger reconciliations and schedules
Ensure reports, postings, reconciliations, and payments are processed in accordance with internal controls and procedures and are in line with general accounting principles
Periodic review of transaction postings within the general ledger
Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for reconciliation and Balance Sheet review
Process more complex journal entries and reconciliations as needed
Prepare and execute the completion of the DSAS Financial Library each month end

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Serve as back up to the other Senior Accountants for accounting, reporting, processing, and delivery of key reports due.
Identify risks and process improvement opportunities, and suggest solutions for improvements
Perform special projects as assigned
Exhibit excellent customer service acumen and support of team collaboration

Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field such as business administration, finance and/or accounting, and a minimum of four (4) years of general accounting experience required. Possessing a CPA or actively pursuing a CPA is preferred.
This position requires strong experience in system integrity review and in internal analysis. Important to successfully executing the job duties of this position requires attention to detail; advanced and proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Word, Power Point, and other Cloud Based Software applications. Expert knowledge of advanced excel, macros, and pivot tables is preferred.
