Job Description Summary

The Vice President for Church Engagement prepares and oversees the execution of strategic plans for the Church Relations and Partnership Development departments to engage churches and individuals in the work of Bible translation. The VP sets the tone for an organizational culture of excellence and service to churches and individuals. The VP serves on the Operational Leadership Team and collaborates with the Executive Leadership Team.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Executive and Operational Leadership Teams to stay up-to-date on trends and forecast the organization’s readiness to respond to our external environment in the areas of U.S. church relationships and deputized fundraising.

  • Supports promotes and ensures operational alignment with Wycliffe's vision, mission, and values, and Pathway to Impact. Develops and implements programs and processes aligned with the strategic direction and vision.

  • Manages organizational operations and budgeting for the Church Relations and Partnership Development teams, identifying and resolving problems, allocating resources, and setting high customer service standards throughout these functions. Develops communication and feedback mechanisms to connect with global staff, respond to their needs, and adjust operations as needed.

  • Collaborates with the Offices of the President, Marketing & Communications, Global Partnerships, People & Culture, and other departments to ensure cross-functional synergy.

  • Manages a small caseload of church partners, including the development and execution of a moves management plan for each.

  • Informs the President, Executive Leadership Team, Operational Leadership Team, and Board on Church Relations and Partnership Development initiatives as appropriate. Leverages leaders’ willingness to support church engagement efforts whenever possible.

  • In keeping with the open-handed attitude and conduct of Wycliffe USA leaders, represents Wycliffe and consults with other Bible translation organizations and mission partners in the area of church engagement and partnership development.

  • Champions organizational culture standards and ensures saturation of culture and cultural values throughout areas of responsibility.

  • Provides spiritual leadership for the VP area, including speaking on spiritual topics, modeling godly behaviors, and living out healthy and biblical spiritual rhythms.

  • Organizational Representative: Present the global ministry of Wycliffe and encourage interested individuals and churches to participate in this work. Maintain an exemplary standard of ethics and conduct that reflects biblical principles.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Coordinate direct and indirect supervisory responsibilities for 10-25 staff by the ministry’s policies and applicable laws, including spiritual leadership, mentoring, interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining staff, gathering feedback, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Travel Requirements: Able and willing to travel up to 30% of the time, domestically and internationally.

  • Physical Abilities: While performing the duties of this job, the staff person is regularly required to talk and/or hear; the staff person frequently is required to walk and sit and occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms; must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

  • Knowledgeable about and committed to staying on top of church relations and deputized fundraising trends and regulations and their potential application to Wycliffe’s key business goals. Knowledgeable about operational and capital finances as well as functional budget development.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal presentation skills in relating to people at all levels of positions and from diverse backgrounds, adjusting communication style as needed.

  • Strong skills in leading and managing change, developing workable implementation plans, communicating change effectively, preparing and supporting those affected by the change, monitoring transition, holding the team accountable, and evaluating results.

  • Exceptional ability to work, and encourage others to work, cross-functionally and collaboratively. Takes a longer-term and broader organizational perspective into account. Able to build trust with others through a commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards.

  • Proven business acumen as well as analytical and problem-solving abilities. Able to negotiate effectively with internal customers, partners, and external service providers.

  • Exceptional change management skills. Experienced in managing organizational change and turning strategy into operational objectives.

  • High value for diversity, experience in working in diverse and cross-cultural environments, and the ability to function well cross-culturally in a variety of contexts.

  • Ability to lead from a place of spiritual maturity and a dependence on God.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in ambiguity, with flexibility for the unexpected.

  • Previous multicultural, missions, and/or ministry experience helpful.

Education & Experience:

Master’s degree plus at least seven years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Nonprofit church engagement, development management, and/or church leadership experience preferred.

  • The minimum starting pay for this position is $105,000/yr. but may be higher based on education, experience, and skills.
