Job Description:

The Adult Director is to ensure ongoing support, development, expansion, and refinement of key adult discipleship programs that guide and encourage people to deepen their personal relationship with Jesus. The key programs include Groups, Discipleship and Care ministry components. This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values, and strategy of A&M United Methodist Church as all activities should be done in accordance with them in mind. ?

Position Type: Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40+ Hours

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Leadership Oversight:

  • Develop strategy and direction for all aspects of Adult Discipleship programing

  • Provide leadership to focus and refine the staff, and volunteer efforts in Discipleship, Groups and Care Ministries

  • Guide and foster relationship with Adult Discipleship Volunteer Leaders

  • Provide communications continuity from key volunteers

  • Approve/ensure ongoing Adult Discipleship communications of Group, Discipleship, Care progress, and program

    events to the congregation

  • Strategically build Adult Discipleship programs, curriculum, and events

  • Clarify and enhance discipleship pathways

  • Build lay leadership pathways

  • Proactively grow and develop leadership gifts through training opportunities.

    Lay Leaders and Volunteers:

  • Build ministry capacity through recruitment and training of lay leaders and volunteers to ensure the effective implementation of ministry objectives, goals, and action plans.

  • Equip, disciple, coach, and supervise ministry lay leaders and volunteers so they may grow like Christ and effectively use their giftedness in God’s church.

  • Develop, communicate, and implement performance expectations and appropriate accountability processes for outreach ministry lay leaders to accomplish missional goals.

  • Identifies key people and organizations in the community and congregation for collaboration and expansion of opportunities for all adults

  • Organizes, purchases and reviews curriculum’s theology to insure that adult studies have resources they need to continue their classes.

  • Overseas and creates adult Sunday school classes, small groups, and helps coordinate and plan Wednesday night studies and small groups including attendance reports

  • Sits as a staff liaison on the senior team ministry, UMW and other adult ministry areas monthly meetings to maintain open communication with groups and A&M UMC staff.

  • Coordinates quarterly adult ministry events/seminars that are open to adults of all ages in the congregation to build relationships and community.

  • Works with the Director of College ministries to bridge graduating seniors that are staying in the area into young adult small groups and other areas as are fit.

    When called upon, willingly perform such tasks which might not be considered part of the normal position description.
