Archbishop John Carroll High School, a co-educational secondary school within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, is committed to excellence in spiritual, academic, and social development. Overview

The Office of Catholic Education appoints the Assistant Principal for Student Life upon the school’s principal's recommendation and in consultation with the school’s President. The Assistant Principal for Student Life is directly responsible to the Principal and oversees all student activities and athletics. Duties may vary according to the needs of the local school. Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Duties)

  • Collaborate with the principal in integrating the Catholic faith and culture into the school’s entire program.
  • Provides personal and visible leadership to all learning community members and seeks continuous school improvement in a student-centric environment.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the administration.
  • Collaborate with faculty, parents, and students to provide a school climate conducive to learning.
  • Design, develop, communicate, and carry out a continually relevant discipline policy that ensures the student's dignity in all matters.
  • Communicate all discipline matters of a serious nature to the Office of Catholic Education in a timely fashion and complete all required documents. ∙ Follow all mandated reporting procedures designated by the Office of Child and Youth Protection and ensure all policies are followed by school colleagues handling student issues.
  • Maintain all records for student attendance, tardiness, and discipline, following procedures determined by the student information system.
  • Establish dialogue with parents, students, and faculty relative to student discipline problems, attendance problems, and guidance services.
  • Supervise student conduct at school-related events and throughout the school day.
  • Assign and coordinate effective policies for students in the cafeteria and auditorium. ∙ Plan, practice, and supervise safe school policies, including all drills, evacuations, etc., and keep records of all plans and practices.
  • Complete student safety reports for the Office of Catholic Education and other entities as requested.
  • Supervise the work of the health office and coordinate students leaving school for health reasons.
  • Demonstrate instructional leadership by understanding academic standards, unit planning, and participating in teacher evaluation.
  • Prepare the budget for the Student Service Office in collaboration with the president and principal.
  • Determine policies and guidelines for student activities in consultation with the Principal.
  • Appoint the activity moderators in consultation with the Principal and supervise their performance.
  • Coordinate the school’s activity program with the assistance of the activity moderators.
  • Create and maintain school, community, and activity calendars in collaboration with Academic Team.
  • Arrange baccalaureate and graduation exercises.
  • Prepare and distribute student and faculty ID cards and hall passes. ∙
  • Assumes responsibilities delegated by the Principal and the President.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience
 

  • Master’s Degree in Education or Education-related field preferred.
  • Two years of successful teaching or coaching experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work productively and positively with staff, parents, and the community.
  • Strong motivational skills.
  • Ability to promote an environment that fosters high expectations for students, staff, and self.
  • Ability to monitor student progress and promote student achievement for all students.
  • Successful participation in staff and curriculum development activities.
