Assistant Director - Community Relations

Community Relations Function

Nutritional Development Services

MAJOR RESPONSBILITIES

Ensuring that all NDS programs are well accepted by sites and programs and participants and to promote and to maintain positive relationships in the community regarding the programs offered by Nutritional Development Services.

In collaboration with the Directors of NDS provide support in the development of new sites for participation in the child nutrition programs and the community food programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Directs the Community Relations function and is responsible to ensure that all NDS programs are meeting the needs of those to whom they are provided and ensure that these services are provided in a way that brings about a positive attitude toward NDS programs.
Responsibilities and duties for the NDS programs (NSLP, CACFP, and CFP) include the following:
Enhances programming with "value-added" opportunities for those participating in NDS programs. Examples would be art contests, food tasting, etc.
Assists parishes, schools and religious education programs with faith formation and prayer resources to be used in conjunction with hands-on service projects that meet the needs of the hungry.
Oversees involvement with student interns and other volunteers, such as deacons of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, who assist in the work of NDS
Responsible for conducting activities that bring about a positive attitude toward NDS programs. Plans, monitors, and controls these activities including: taste tests, special projects, visits, surveys, parent/teacher meetings, trainings, lectures, special events.
Promote the services of NDS in schools, day care programs, after-school programs and summer meal programs that are seeking the services of NDS.
Responsible for meeting formally and informally with those who receive NDS programs to evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of these services.
Responsible for supervising all wellness, nutrition education, and related activities.
In conjunction with the Executive Director of NDS, authorizes all marketing and promotion campaigns and formal external communications for NSLP, CACFP and CFP.
In conjunction with the Office for Communication of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia plans, monitors, and controls all press releases and other mass media communications for NSLP, CACFP and CFP.
Responsible for supervising the administrator of Community Food Program
In conjunction with the Administrator of the Community Food Program, oversee the development of the NDS newsletter.
Represents NDS with anti-hunger organizations in the greater Philadelphia region
Assures the appropriate use of NDS property.

Responsible for knowledge of and compliance with applicable:
NDS Board policies
Secretariat and Archdiocesan policies, guidelines, and regulations
NDS policies, guidelines, and regulations
NDS program regulations

REPRESENTATIVE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Have a thorough understanding of:
All NDS programs, both federally funded and privately funded
The Catholic Church and Catholic social teaching and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia,
Anti-hunger organizations in the southeastern region of Pennsylvania

Be able to:
Promote the federally funded child nutrition programs to various organizations/schools, and other sites serving children.
Speak in public and before mass media and have excellent written communication skills
Develop and execute creative and child-appropriate activities which promote the mission of NDS
Promote the development efforts of NDS, particularly for the Community Food Program
Develop prayer and faith formation materials that support the mission of NDS
Relate well to persons of different racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
Attend evening and weekend activities at schools and other venues

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Have at least an undergraduate degree. Graduate degree preferred
Have a minimum of five years' experience in administration and/or in leadership positions
Be available for evening and weekend activities
Be able to climb stairs.
Be able to lift and carry 30 lb. Boxes
Have a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business use
