Job Description
As the seat of the Bishop, the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral, is the spiritual and liturgical center of the Diocese of Pennsylvania. Episcopalians gather at the Cathedral from across a varied Diocese in the defining act of common prayer as we give thanks and offer the best of ourselves to God. The Cathedral is also a vibrant community center, as it opens its doors to host numerous community, civic, and cultural events and groups from across the region.
The Cathedral is poised for the expansion and deepening of ministries to and with our Diocese, community, and congregation. Our congregation is a diverse and progressive community, drawing from a wide geography, both in person and virtually. We place a high priority on ministries of inclusive welcome, hospitality, compassion, and justice.
We are blessed by a growing number of strong lay leaders, committed staff members, a historic church, and a new building with beautiful, flexible spaces for worship and ministries. With these resources, we hope to expand and to deepen thriving ministries, sharing God’s Word, sacraments, and love within and beyond our Cathedral doors. In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, our congregation is actively exploring systemic racism in our church and community.
We seek to call a full-time priest who will join us in leading the ministry and life that God is growing at the Cathedral. Our associate will be a faithful and creative leader who is comfortable with preaching and presiding in a variety of styles. The Dean, staff members, and lay leaders work collaboratively. We anticipate that the Associate will work most closely with the Dean, the Canon for the Arts, the Director of Children’s Ministries, and lay small community leaders.
