Position Summary:

As a member of Mission & Ministry, the Campus Minister for Hispanic/Latinx Ministry & Outreach promotes and supports the Augustinian, Catholic mission of the University, with particular attention to the Augustinian charism and spirituality and concern for building community that is inclusive, respects and celebrates diversity, and fosters an atmosphere that demonstrates care for our common home. In doing so, the Campus Minister for Hispanic/Latinx Ministry & Outreach will work specifically to meet the spiritual needs of Hispanic and Latinx people on campus (students, both graduate and undergraduate, staff, and faculty), helping to create an environment that fosters the rich diversity expressed in faith and culture.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative

  • Attend and actively participate in Staff and Team meetings
  • Attend professional, retreat, evaluation, and planning meetings
  • Meet with the Director for Spirituality & Outreach for regular supervision
  • Participate in Campus Ministry and Division-wide committees and/or University committees as assigned Maintain regular office hours
  • Manage budgets for programs
  • Maintain active personal spiritual life and development

 

 


Formative & Pastoral Care

  • Advise ¡Levántate!, the Hispanic Ministry student organization and establish relationships with all existing related student groups.
  • Provide a place of sharing and celebration at a monthly dinner after mass (Cena de la Convivencia)
  • In collaboration with other divisions on campus, plan and implement social events for Latinx students and events that showcase the richness of Latino/a cultures (Hispanic Heritage Month, Our Lady of Guadalupe, etc.)
  • Develop and evaluate other opportunities to build community and form leaders among Latinx students.
  • Provide one-on-one care to offer effective support to students both academically and personally.
  • Provide pastoral support to Latinx students in collaboration with the Latinx Recruitment and Retention Initiative


Collaborative

  • Collaborate with the Liturgy team in organizing Spanish masses and special celebrations and devotions.
  • Collaborate with the St. Thomas of Villanova Center for the Common Good, especially on ESL and Immigration related initiatives
  • Serve on the committee on campus that coordinates the various groups, offices, and organizations that work with Latinx students or on issues/topics related to the Latinx community (e.g., Spanish Department, Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Center for Multicultural Affairs, the Center for Access Success and Achievement, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, etc.).
  • Maintain a connection with the Hispanic Summer program and other opportunities that will help with understanding current trends and needs in the field of Hispanic Ministry and Outreach
  • Collaborate with the clinics and student groups of the Charles Widger School of Law in their work with the Latinx community
  • Collaborate with various colleges and departments on campus to create opportunities that benefit the local Latinx community and enhance the education of Villanova students
  • Establish and maintain communication with the Archdiocese’s Office for Hispanic Catholics and other associations promoting and supporting the Latinx student experience
  • Act as a point of contact for local and national organizations involved in immigration issues (e.g., PICC, New Sanctuary Movement, Justice for Immigrants)
  • Assist in efforts to bring speakers of Latinx descent to campus


Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Formal Education

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theology/Pastoral Ministry or equivalent is required.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of demonstrated experience working with the Latinx community in the context of ministry.

Work Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to work on teams
  • Administration and management of volunteers and work-study/ graduate students
  • Ability to relate and work with diverse groups within the community

Specific Job Knowledge

  • An understanding of Roman Catholic theology and practices and the ability to relate them to the personal and relational experience of young adults
  • Principles of Catholic Social Teaching
  • A clear ministerial vision grounded in an awareness of Augustinian spirituality and an ability to develop programs and experiences that further that vision
  • Faith and psychological development of the young adult
  • Commitment to a personal and communal prayer life and spiritual growth
  • Understanding of Latinx culture(s) and spiritual practices
  • Experience in Hispanic Ministry
  • An understanding of issues and policies related to immigration and Latinx immigrants.
