The First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia is a progressive and spiritually diverse congregation whose mission is to awaken love and justice in our lives and in the world. As we are a growing church with a vibrant rental program in downtown Philadelphia, our competent, kind, and fun staff team serves both our diverse congregational population and spiritual, musical, social justice, and educational groups who use our spaces throughout the year.

Position Summary: The Communications and Office Coordinator will provide dynamic leadership and detailed oversight to all congregational communications and our church office. This includes managing the church’s web, print, and social media presence as well as handling inquiries and coordinating operations of our office and staff team. Reports to the Business Administrator.

Essential Functions:

  • Web and Social Media Content and Publications: Leads church web and social media strategy, including managing church website and social media presences and directing the regular creation of compelling new content. Produces and distributes all print and electronic church literature (brochures, orders of service, announcements, weekly and monthly newsletters, mailings, worship videos).
  • Correspondence: Responds to inquiries that come into the church office from members, visitors, community, renters and others.
  • Data management: Manages the databases for church membership (Breeze), attendance, and programs (visitors, directory, mailings, program registration, etc.).
  • Administrative: Works with Business Administrator to maintain church calendar and zoom accounts, manage financial statements, filing, supply re-ordering, and general clerical duties.
  • Staff Team: Collaborates with ministers, Business Administrator, and rest of the staff team in carrying out the mission of the congregation. Other duties as required.

Core Qualities: As the face of communications for the church, the candidate must possess superior interpersonal skills to successfully manage the extensive interaction with a wide range of individuals and groups. Essential qualities include kindness, patience, self-direction, positivity, flexibility, humor, clear communication, a high degree of organization, an eye for detail, collaborative, plus a drama-free approach to problem-solving. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding editing/proofing and writing skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google suite applications. In addition, experience with social media, web management, and online communication tools such as Facebook, Zoom, Twitter, YouTube, and MailChimp are ideal.

Physical Requirements:

_ Able to move freely around the church building, which is unfortunately not fully wheelchair accessible currently and includes stairs to office and meeting spaces._
