Position: Coordinator of Faith Formation

The Coordinator of Religious Education is a full-time, twelve-month position which includes some nights and weekends. Candidate must be a fully-initiated and practicing Catholic who embraces the richness of the Gospel and is zealous in sharing the Good News with others. The Coordinator of Faith Formation reports directly to the pastor. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Parish Religious Education Program

  • Recruit, train, oversee, mentor and assist a team of volunteer and paid catechists for grades 1-8
  • Prepare, schedule and oversee Sacramental programs for students/parents
  • Administer the program's biannual registration of students for our traditional and summer programs
  • Manage, oversee, and provide:
    • textbooks, teaching materials, resources for the program
    • learning environments (classroom and building)
    • learning outcomes and budget for the program
  • Manage sacramental preparation for Baptism and preparation of Parish children for First Penance, First Communion and Confirmation (only those enrolled in PREP)
  • Manage the two-week Summer PREP program
  • Develop a plan for the engagement of PREP parents through intentional outreach and evangelization initiatives
  • Develop a plan for the growth of the PREP program to increase enrollment
  • Develop a plan to update PREP communications with catechists and families through the use of FlockNote emails and texts.

Adult Faith Formation and Parish Communications

  • Coordinate the adult faith formation initiatives of the parish including small groups, Bible Studies and one-time presentations
  • Occasionally develop and offer new adult faith formation opportunities for target audiences in the parish
  • Manage parish communications using FlockNote (mass email and text), social media and upkeep of parish website
  • Manage parish OptiSigns screen in the vestibule
  • Serve as member of the Parish Pastoral Staff and Pastoral Council

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic faithful to the Magisterial Teachings of the Church, living consistent with his/her vocation and is animated with a strong sense of the Church's primary mission to bring people into a personal encounter with Jesus Christ
  • A heart for sharing the Gospel and specifically in equipping parents and catechists to do the same
  • BA/BS Degree or equivalent experience, with a preference given to candidates with a Theology, Catechetical, Religious Studies or Education background
  • Meets the Philadelphia 'Archdiocesan Catechetical Certification' requirements
  • Meets Archdiocesan Safe Environment protocols
  • Experience as catechist or teacher
  • Experience in leading a team effectively, including managing and resolving conflict and crises
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational, communication, computer, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Creative and self-motivated with an ability to take direction from superiors
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining good relationships with parishioners, catechists and colleagues
  • Must have strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite as well as e-communications such as social media, emailing, texting, website management and other online applications
