Christian Education Staff Openings
The Baptist Church of West Chester is seeking to hire either:
- A Director of Children’s Ministry AND a Director of Youth Ministry
(10 hours/week) OR
- A Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry (15-20 hours/week)

Position Title: Part-Time Director of Children’s Ministry
Ministry Purpose:
The Director of Children’s Ministry (DCM), in partnership with the BCWC congregation, will lead and coordinate a ministry for children (Infants-Elementary) and their families so that children discover their identity as one who is loved by God and learn to share God’s love with the people in their young lives.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Children’s Ministry Program Areas
Establish with the Board of Christian Education and pastors the vision, purpose, and goals for all Children’s Ministries consistent with the overall BCWC mission and vision.
- Oversee and coordinate the Kids for Christ (Elementary-Age) Sunday Morning Worship Experience, Nursery and Pre-School Ministry, and Sunday Morning after worship life group for children.
- Teach the children to apply the Bible to their life concerns.
- Present children’s messages once a month.
- Support and encourage the efforts of families to raise their children in the Christian faith.
- Encourage the children to serve in the life of BCWC, for example, coordinating their participation as ushers, greeters, participation in Old Fashioned Christmas Parade, etc.
- Coordinate with the praise band director and pastors the Family Christmas Eve Service.
- Participate in the planning/facilitating of Vacation Bible School.
- Coordinate a quarterly community “outreach” program for children/families
2. Personnel / Training * Identify, recruit, equip, and schedule BCWC adult and youth volunteers in children’s ministry.
- Recruit, equip, and supervise paid nursery caregivers in cooperation with the Board of Christian Education.
- Ensure knowledge of and adherence to BCWC’s Protection Policy by all Children Ministry Volunteers. Work with BCWC Administrative Assistant to coordinate volunteer clearances.
3. Administration
Propose annual budget allocations for Children’s Ministries to Board of Christian Education; review and manage line items throughout the year.
- Choose and maintain adequate curricula, supplies, and other materials to support all Children’s Ministry programs.
- Oversee upkeep of nursery, pre-school, and KFC rooms in coordination with board of Christian Education
- Develop timely communications to promote community and congregational awareness, interest, and involvement in all BCWC ministries for children.
- Meet regularly with BCWC’s Associate Pastor and attend BCWC staff and Board of Christian Education meetings.
Education and Experience
Experience working with young children and their families and organizing volunteers in Christian ministry strongly preferred; related college study of benefit.
Working Conditions
The DCM will conduct its ministry primarily at church. However, communication from home will occur with volunteers and parents, often after regular working hours.

The DCM must have a strong personal faith in Jesus Christ, agree with the mission and core values of BCWC, seek to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ; have a passion for ministry to children and families; possess strong interpersonal skills, and relate well with children, families, volunteers and paid staff; be a team player and a leader; be a good organizer and effective in delegating tasks to volunteers; be a good manager and steward of the financial resources of the Children’s Ministries program, seek continued personal and professional growth; and have knowledge of American Baptist Church Life / Theology or be willing to develop said knowledge.

Position Description
Position Title: Part-Time Director of Youth Ministry
Ministry Purpose: The Director of Youth Ministry (DYM), in partnership with the BCWC congregation, will lead and coordinate a ministry for youth (middle and high school) and their families so that children discover their identity as one who is loved by God and learn to share God’s love with the people in their young lives.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Program Development
Develop a program that engages a growing number of Junior High and Senior High students weekly in some aspect of the church.
- Plan and promote all significant events and weekly programming.
- 2. Relationship Building
Know the names of every youth and parent on the rolls. * Contact inactive youth or parents personally by e-mail or phone
- Contact each youth/family at least quarterly.
- Make face-to-face contact with every student in the youth directory at least once.
- Attend student events during the school year, and invite volunteer youth leaders to those events.
- Personally follow up with first-time visitors within the first week of their visit.
3. Equipping Volunteers
Ensure all youth ministry volunteers complete an application, clear a background check, and receive training before serving in the youth ministry. Offer ongoing support.
- Meet personally with regular volunteers at least once a year and check in with them quarterly.
4. Faith Formation
Along with the Director of Children’s Ministry, develop an energetic, engaging, and creative Sunday school program for middle and high school students.
- Lead Bible studies and equip volunteers to do so.
- Invite youth who do not typically attend worship to sit with Youth Director during the services and peers.
- Connect youth to ministries in the congregation where they can use their gifts and build relationships with other community members.
5. Administration
Develop and distribute documents in a timely fashion (the youth directory, the youth ministry calendar, calendar requests, event and trip registration forms, leaders’ directory, first-timer directory)
- Ensure that all involved parties have updated, distributed, and adhered to compliance documents (copyright licensing, background checks on volunteers and staff, etc.)
- Initiate wrote and in-person communication with parents, leaving the avenues of communication open for parents' concerns and suggestions to be brought to the table.
- Work with the Board of Christian Education regarding an annual youth ministry budget.
- Update the church staff, particularly the Associate Pastor, with progress updates.
- In collaboration with the Board of Christian Education, attend to the“in-between-the-cracks” needs of the youth ministry in a professional and timely manner, including bulletin boards, photography, attendance, newsletters, bulletin and church school announcements, forms, and registration
- Address problems in the youth ministry in a way that honors the concerns of those who brought them, and offer timely, creative solutions to issues in the youth ministry
Education and Experience
