General Description
The Coordinator/Director of Religious Education is a leader who assists adults, adolescents and children of the parish in their faith formation. The CRE/DRE is a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church. The DRE must accept and be committed to the teachings of the Catholic Church as they are promulgated in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia under the authority of the Archbishop of Philadelphia.

Requirements
Requires an educational or experiential background in Theology/Religious Education (or related field). The CRE/DRE will have catechist certification (or obtain in accordance with the archdiocese). The role requires strong verbal and written communication skills together with team-oriented planning and execution. The candidate must establish and build relationships with the parish school and PREP teams (principal, teachers, catechists, parents, and students). Strong technology skills, organization, and creativity are necessary to respond to the demands of this position. The candidate must be self-motivated and comfortable in a self-directed work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Religious Education
- Oversee and direct the development of the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) from Grades 1 through 7. Create and schedule the annual program calendar; ensure curriculum in accordance with the guidelines of the archdiocese.
- Interact with and maintain open communication with Pastor, SCJN School principal, faculty, and parish office staff as needed.
- Build robust catechist team: recruit, train and supervise catechists and other volunteers; guide catechists to obtain Catechetical Certification. Oversee catechists in leading annual age-appropriate Kid Talk lessons; obtain supporting documentation. Conduct meetings as needed.
- Oversee financial records for the Parish Religious Education Program and establish program fees in conjunction with pastor and parish business manager.
- Maintain digital and written records for the Parish Religious Education Program.
- Implement annual Safe Environment Program protocols with the Safe Environment Coordinator. Complete audit for Office of Youth and Child Protection.
- Coordinate the Children's Liturgy of the Word Program for parish youth.
- Interface with publishers and vendors to procure materials for the PREP program.
- Participate as member in Archdiocesan and local PD/CARE (Parish Directors/Coordinators and Administrators of Religious Education) Associations
- Participate in SJN Parish committees, liturgical celebrations, and events as appropriate.
Sacramental Preparation
- Under the guidance of the Pastor, oversee and direct all sacramental preparation for First Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
- Facilitate retreats and event details related to liturgical celebrations.
Technology Skills:
- Exhibits competence with electronic platforms including Mail Chimp, SignUpGenius, and Zoom (or similar remote educational tool). Familiar with Microsoft Office products.
- Computer proficiency including the ability to develop digital databases, files and newsletters.
