Janitor/Maintenance Worker
Mercy Hospice
Philadelphia, PA
Responsibilities
Fully comprehends, articulates and reflects in job performance the mission and philosophy of Mercy Hospice.
Maintains responsibility for monitoring the operations of major facility systems (heating, air conditioning, plumbing, etc.).
Ensures that minor building operations are maintained and repaired (e.g. light fixtures, fire exit signs, outlets, etc.).
Conducts monthly fire and safety checks.
Maintains general upkeep and cleaning of the building (e.g. mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, painting, spackling, etc.).
Ensures building is compliance with CSS insurance safety inspections and external safety inspections.
Inspects room furniture/fixtures for necessary repairs prior to resident admissions.
Strips and waxes floor as needed in 1st floor hallways, front lounge and quiet lounge.
Sweeps and washes outside landing/steps and sidewalk on a daily basis.
Cleans accidental spills/mishaps in external areas of the building.
Maintains responsibility for snow removal on front, side and back areas of building.
Makes deliveries/pick-ups of CSS mail, and food donations, maintenance and building supplies.
Assists with putting items delivered are put away in appropriate locations.
Changes bottled water containers in medication room.
Assists with moving office equipment, supplies and donations.
Conducts regular maintenance checks of agency vehicles. Ensures that agency vehicles are scheduled for inspections.
Cleans/washes vehicle as needed.
Cleans ceiling fans and vents monthly.
Obtains bids from external contractors for work to be done on the building.
Interacts with external contractors to ensure work is complete.
Van driver for case management emergencies with residents.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills Required
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Able to climb numerous flights of stairs
Ability to respond to facility emergencies AND flexibility between 2 locations
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to respond to changing priorities.
Excellent time management skills.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries at all times.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in facility maintenance and janitorial services.
Valid PA driver's license
