Job Description

We are a vibrant, welcoming Episcopal parish in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, and we have been serving this community for more than 200 years. We are a part of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, the Episcopal Church, and the Anglican Communion. We
worship in the “Anglo-Catholic” tradition, and you can find more information about our parish at our website, https://www.stlukesgermantown.com/

Our music program is rooted in the traditions of Anglican church music and African American hymns and spirituals. We are proud of our historic 1894 organ built by C.C. Michell. Our parish values a high-quality music ministry, which deepens our worship experience for the entire faith
community.

We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of part-time music director, who will lead our music program, which principally provides sacred music for Sunday services, for Holy Days, and for other parish celebrations.
Our music director serves as choirmaster and organist, and our ideal candidate will be a confident choral conductor with a desire to teach and work with musicians of all ages and abilities, a detail-oriented administrator, a kind and collegial pastoral presence, and a strong organist. They are expected to enhance our already vibrant music program, continue our traditions of excellence in organ and choral music, and enhance the spiritual growth of our parish-while being musically flexible and also willing to use our new audio-visual and live streaming capabilities.

Our music program includes the main St. Cecilia’s Choir, which consists of unpaid and professional singers, with weekly rehearsals and High Mass services. Our program also has included a bell choir and various forms of youth choirs, which the parish would like to see reinvigorated, as well as occasional professional vocal and instrumental soloists. We would like to explore expanding our music program to other formats that would extend beyond our main, more formal service.
