Job Description


The Principal of our nonpublic school serves as the educational director and liaison to MSDE and Local School Systems, as well as serves as the managing administrator to all school staff.  Persons applying should be well-versed in special education, behavior management, and leadership practices, as well as familiarity with fiscal management.  The principal leads a multi-disciplinary team in providing educational services to a population that both has highly intensive needs, yet has an amazing amount of untapped potential.  As principal at an Arrow nonpublic, there is a rich opportunity to show initiative and use the creativity and wisdom from their experience.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING

  • Monitors the school climate and maintains proper rules, safety and security of students, providing crisis intervention as needed. Assures a safe learning environment for students.
  • Interviews and hires qualified school staff.
  • Designs, schedules, implements, designate, monitors, and assesses professional development and supervision.
  • Coordinates the admissions process, including policies, review of referrals, pre-admission interviews and placement decisions.
  • Aside from routine annual reviews, communicates regularly with instructional, resource and clinical staff, as well as with representatives from Local School Systems, to assure appropriate services for all students. Attends IEP Team Meetings involving review of placement, changes in service provision or crisis intervention.
  • Coordinates the overall student scheduling, class assignments, transcript reviews and implementation of the educational and behavioral components of the school.
  • Monitors school documentation, in conjunction with the Assistant Principal, Treatment Coordinator, Diagnostic and Prescriptive Teacher, Behavior Specialist and Program Assistant.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of policies, procedures, administrative files and continually assesses the overall program to assure optimum educational, behavioral and clinical function, as well as State compliance.
  • Operates the educational program within approved budgetary guidelines.
  • Completes Monthly Program Report by the 1st of the month and oversees the completion of other monthly and annual reports, such as attendance and budget.
  • Informs the Vice-President of Education of all relevant situations.
  • Attends trainings and meetings as required.
  • Shares/transmits the mission and vision of Arrow Child & Family Ministries to staff and to students and families served.
  • Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, Arrow policy, and COA/NCASES standards.

 

EDUCATION, LICENSURE AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Master's Degree and a valid state specific Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate. At least five (5) years of teaching experience in special education with emotionally disturbed students and three (3) years of progressive supervisory and administrative experience.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position directly supervises staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Arrow Child & Family Ministries policies, State and Federal laws and policy and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance including coaching and future performance development; manages training needs through learning management system; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Maintain quality improvement goals and address at regularly scheduled staff meetings.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver's license
  • Proof of current Auto Registration, Inspection and Insurance
  • Driving Record (three years) from the state in which the driver's license is valid
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must submit to and pass random drug tests during employment. 
  • Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
