Position Title: Program Assistant, Children & Family Programs

Reports to: Associate Pastor, Children & Family Ministries

Status: Support Staff (Part-time, 20 hours per week non-exempt, hourly Eligible for Benefits

Position Summary:

The Program Assistant: Children and Family Ministries assists the Associate Pastor, Children & Family Ministry to reflect the good news of God’s love in nurturing children’s faith including excellent age appropriate programs, resourcing families, and supporting the work of volunteers. Is skilled to work with children and families from diverse backgrounds (same gender parents, special needs children and diverse cultures).

General Support:

· Uses the educational materials provided by the church to share the faith and traditions of BMPC;

· Assists in assuring that all policies and procedures regarding children are followed by staff and volunteers.

· Establishes and maintains caring and healthy relationships with children and their parents/caregivers;

· Ensures that children are adequately monitored at all times during Children & Family Ministry programming, adhering to minimum staffing ratios as outlined in the BMPC Child & Youth Protection policy;

· Understands and adheres to all BMPC Policies and Guidelines;

· Is an active colleague modeling good communication and collaboration in working with members of the CFM team including the Associate Pastor, Assistant, Childcare Coordinator, Childcare staff, and volunteers;

Program Responsibilities:

· Assists Associate Pastor, Children & Family Ministries in development of age-appropriate curriculum and programming as assigned;

· Remains in the Educational Building, available for families, staff or volunteers during Sunday School hours;

· Supports program volunteers by acting as main point of contact for Sunday morning;

· Collects attendance for students, shares with Assistant, Children and Family Ministries;

· With the Associate Pastor and volunteer leaders develops and coordinates all aspects of Vacation Bible C&

· Supports special events including fellowship events, family worship services, and mission projects;

· Directs parents to Assistant, Children and Family Ministries for registration and administrative needs.

Volunteer Coordination Responsibilities:

· Prepares classrooms with all necessary materials prior to the arrival of families for Sunday School and other Children and Family Ministries programs;

· Plans, procures and maintains inventory of supplies;

· Collects remaining materials and resets classrooms following Sunday School dismissal;

· Supports host families and volunteers during fellowship after Sunday School;

· Remains until the last child has been picked up and last volunteer leaves;

Administrative Office Team

· Attends all required administrative and department meetings with an engaged manner;

· Assists in office administrative responsibilities including mailings, front desk support and volunteer appreciation opportunities as able;

· Understands the weekly and annual rhythm of the liturgical and programmatic calendars;

· Forwards information regarding membership changes to the Membership Assistant in a timely manner, using established forms.

· Understands the organization of the staff and the church leadership;

· Uses all available equipment and software appropriately, including all workroom and mailroom tools.

Overview of Schedule

· Sunday – 5 hours – Program and Cleaning up (required)

· During the week:

o 7 hours – preparing for the week ahead and lesson planning

o 3 hours – program facilitation (Wednesday evenings or Friday/Saturday)

o 3 hours – administrative tasks and staff meetings

· Expected to be present for special events (such as Children’s Christmas Eve Concert, Vacation Bible School

· Expected to do a Costco run once a week for program supplies

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience;

· Experience providing care for young children;

· Experience managing staff and volunteers;

· Background in child development or education preferred;

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

· Prefer experience with curriculum development and lesson planning

  • Ability to spend prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
