Full Job Description

The Staff Accountant reports to the Manager, Financial Reporting and is responsible for assisting with the timely and accurate preparation of Board of Pensions’ financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and reconciling all investment and assistance gift information for financial reporting, auditing, and analysis. The Staff Accountant prepares monthly account analysis, reconciles all daily cash activity, and resolves discrepancies, and inputs journal entries into the Board of Pensions’ accounting software. Furthermore, the Staff Accountant supports tax compliance reporting, updates process and procedures narratives, and assists in other financial research, analysis and report preparation as required.

What you will do:
Reconcile bank accounts and resolve discrepancies between the general ledger and bank statements and updates the on-line commercial banking platform.
Summarize daily cash activity, including completing control procedures in place over check payments to ensure proper reconciliation of cash accounts.
Develop and document Finance procedures to ensure the Board of Pensions has a strong control environment in place to mitigate risks of fraud and error.
Prepare monthly gifts and investments reconciliations and related journal entries, and review SOC reports for investment managers.
Prepare quarterly roll forward of the activity for the Board of Pensions’ alternative investments.
Prepare monthly journal entries, accurate account analyses, monthly written financial statement analyses, and produce the department’s monthly financial reporting package.
Support tax compliance and reporting by gathering tax information used in the preparation of the annual Form 990-T, annual FBAR filings, and other federal, state, and local tax filings.
Prepare information for the annual compliance assessment and Compliance Committee meetings and periodically prepare other compliance tax and reporting required of the Board of Pensions.
Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements and footnotes.
Provide effective support and analyses for internal and external audits.
Responsible for the uploading all journal entries for the Finance Team into Lawson System, and ensure each entry has approval and documentation attached.
Assist with the update of the annual Tax Guide for Ministers and Federal Reporting Requirements for Churches.

What you need to succeed in the role:
An understanding of GAAP and experience with computerized general ledger accounting systems.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, Advanced Excel, Word and Power Point.
An ability to work as an effective team member, as well as independently.
An ability to make sound decisions and judgements regarding complex issues.
Extreme attention to detail.
Demonstrated accountability to timely and accurate completion of responsibilities.
Excellent analytical skills, decision making, and problem-solving ability.
Strong organizational skills.
An ability, interest and desire to stay current via seminars, industry literature, and formal training and development.
An ability to work on-site Tuesday through Thursday at the 2000 Market Street office in Philadelphia.
An ability to effectively work remotely utilizing an uninterrupted internet connection, as required.
