Victim Advocate

Office for Child and Youth Protection

Job Purpose:

The victim advocate will provide assistance to victims/survivors of child sexual abuse by representatives of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The victim advocate will also provide assistance to the victim's family members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and assistance to victims/survivors and family members by:
    • Providing comprehensive case management services, supportive counseling and assessment of needs in a proactive manner.
    • Responding to calls, walk-ins and emails in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Collaborating with mental health and other service providers.
    • Providing appropriate social service referrals.
    • Providing information on available services.
    • Collaborating with victim service and other agencies as needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to victims and parish communities.
  • Support office efforts to prevent child abuse and promote healing.
  • Serve on active committees.
  • Maintain client privacy.
  • Maintain electronic and hardcopy client records.
  • Represent the organization to the public in person, via phone or e-mail in a professional manner.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve the office.
  • Successful completion of mandatory Safe Environment trainings as well as continuing education via trainings and seminars.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Skills
    • Strong verbal and communication presence is critical.
  • Abilities
    • Travel within five counties of the Archdiocese may be required.
    • Position is contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check.
    • Successful completion of mandatory Safe Environment trainings.
  • Other characteristics such as personal characteristics
    • Working knowledge of and comfort with Catholic faith and parish life is required.
  • Experience
    • Experience providing trauma informed services preferred.
    • Background in database management and compliance.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions and physical requirements:

This position is expected to be carried out Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May require working on evenings and weekends.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 30lbs.
