Preventing Suicide
Emmanuel Faith Community Church holds a workshop for everyone who wants to help people experiencing factors that can trigger suicide. As per its webpage, Joyce Bruggeman, an author and trainer on suicide prevention, will give valuable insights and helpful training on preventing suicide using QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) technique.
The Suicide Prevention Training is open to anyone interested in the topic. Still, the church encourages small group leaders, support leaders, and anyone engaged in counseling and care ministries.
It will be on Nov. 9, training starts at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. The venue is the Education Center, Room 3, EFCC Main Campus.
According to an article by Nancy Schimelpfening, published on verywellmind.com, many factors often combine results to an individual’s decision to commit suicide.
Mental Health Daily cited 15 common reasons why people commit suicide. Mental illness is further subdivided into classifications, a traumatic experience, drug addiction or substance abuse, unemployment, social isolation/loneliness, and relationship problems.
Meanwhile, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated that suicide is a significant public health problem that long-lasting impacts individuals, families, and communities. Still, everyone can work to prevent it.

Suicide Among Americans
As revealed by The National Institute of Mental Health, suicide is one of the major causes of death in the United States. Recent mortality data showed that suicide in some populations is on the rise.
Meanwhile, teenagers are not exempt from the problem of suicide. An article on Today.com reported that girls are attempting suicide more during the pandemic.
An increase of over 50% in suicidal thoughts and attempts among teen girls compared to 2019 has been recorded. But parents can do something about it.
Still from the same source, Dr. Christine Yu Moutier, as a reference to CDC Data released last 2020, stated that parents should have learned from the report.
She stated that parents should not wait for a crisis in their children, particularly with the girls. They should proactively nurture an environment at home, and in a relationship, where girls are educated that no topic is too challenging, no challenge is too big for the family to handle together, and that their parents are ready to listen and that they are a team, working to find solutions.
