Throughout the year, the Military Outreach Ministry (MOM) has been a part of the outreach program of Faith Presbyterian Church.

Together with the church's congregation, the board of deacons helps with a coordinated outreach. So they could collect items needed by MOM for military families in the San Diego area, as posted on the church website.

The Matthew 25 Church

Faith Presbyterian Church defined itself as Matthew 25 Church, wherein Jesus said that as anyone did it to one of the weak members of His family, they did it to Him. They are dedicated to participating in tearing down racism through education, worship, and mission.

Besides, the church added that Faith Presbyterian Church meets in the College Area from across the county. They desire to embrace their dearest community. They described themselves as having a diversity of people of color, genders, singles, parents, old, young, and various abilities. The church also emphasized that its members share the same life about justice, delight in education, and excellence in music.

Moreover, they envision themselves as a family of Christ that welcomes everyone, worships God, and serves others.

Church’s Deacons

The said website emphasized that Deacons are “the hands and feet of Jesus.” They mentioned that the Deacon Ministry provides outreach to the community.  The church has connections with the Alliance Health Clinic and Interfaith Network Shelter. Also, to Military Outreach Ministries (MOM), New Day Urban Ministries, and Prison Ministry.

Aside from the outreaches, the church also said that the Deacons set the Lord’s Table for Communion Services and manage flowers for Sunday Services. They also hold receptions for Memorial Services held at the church. The said ministry gives care and comfort to those in need through phone calls and visits to homes, hospitals, or facilities.

One of Youngest Church

The church’s history says that they are one of the youngest churches in San Diego Presbytery. They are merging two existing churches in the area, such as East San Diego and College Park.

The website added that both churches have similar sizes and both church buildings. Also, the facilities were aging structures with mounting maintenance expenses and shrinking membership, the website added.

San Diego MOM

On the San Diego MOM website, they posted their mission is to serve great underserved individuals of the junior enlisted military in San Diego County with their basic needs to assist stretch their limited funds. At the same time, they live in one of the most expensive areas in the county.

They said that they do not charge any of their services. They give out food seven times a month at military housing and meals. Especially during the holiday in November and December. Then, they allow families to buy baby items, children’s clothes, and household items at their Distribution Center.

The said mission also helps families feel a sense of community, especially spouses of deployed members. They are holding special events, such as baby showers, Christmas Stores, Easter egg hunts, and back-to-school backpack drives. The mission also added that they help during personal emergencies—for instance, home fires and facing large medical bills due to kids’ illnesses.
