The church’s event page mentioned that the book study is under the Heart of Christianity Book Study. They added that the story is a series of letters from a senior demon, Screwtape, to his nephew.

The website noted that the book is about the dilemma between good and evil. It also tackles the role of Christianity, as further explained.

First UMC of San Diego announced that the book study meets via Zoom meetings.

About C. S. Lewis

According to another section from the Good Reads website, Clive Staples (C.S.) Lewis wrote over thirty books. He reached a wide range of readers through his masterpiece, as further posted on the website.

The same webpage revealed that thousands of new readers are amazed by Lewis's books. They added that his most notable and famous works include Mere Christianity, Out of the Silent Planet, and The Great Divorce.

Lewis is also known for his Screwtape Letters and, most significantly, The Chronicles of Narnia. The books of Narnia have sold more than 100 million copies and been made into movies, the website highlighted.

More importantly, Lewis was said to be the most prominent writer of his day. The website stressed that he was one of the most brilliant authors of the twentieth century.

Aside from writing, the website exposed Lewis as a Fellow and Teacher in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954. He retired as the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, as further mentioned on the website.

Another important point the website noted is that Lewis married a poet, Joy Davidman.

The Screwtape Letters

According to the Good Reads website, the book The Screwtape Letters attracts its readers with a cynical portrayal of the life of humans. The website also mentioned that the book is about man’s shortcomings from the viewpoint of Screwtape.

As further explained, C.S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters is the most entertaining topic on temptation and how people can overcome it.

Book Reviews

The website posted some reviews for the book’s readers. J.G. Keely said Lewis’s Screwtape Letters developed his opinion of Christians. According to Keely, the book emphasized all the apparent faults of extreme faith.

He added that Lewis did a great job of making it easier for readers to understand.

In addition, Keely stated that Lewis explained what the devils hate and how God would save the sinful. He stated that Lewis acknowledges the shortcomings of humankind in this book.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Sharabiani emphasized that the book’s character and the flow of the story are used to tackle “Christian theological” concerns. He said Lewis mainly discusses temptation and how to resist it in his book.

On the other hand, Miranda Reads said that she does not fully agree with all Lewis mentioned in his book. But she finds the book very interesting to learn small things about how corruption impacts people’s daily lives.
