First United Methodist Church encourages its members to join the Monday Night Christian Book Club as they start a new book study series on July 11 from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
The church's website announced they are studying the book, “Ordinary on Purpose” by Mikala Albertson.
They also informed the congregation that they would host the review via Zoom online meeting.
Ordinary On Purpose
According to the Amazon website, Albertson expressed her amazing walk in a raw and exposing way as she invited readers to surrender their neverending pursuit of perfection and accept the beautiful yet messy life.
On the same site, the author asked, “What would it look like to stop pretending to be perfect and be ordinary?” Albertson emphasized that people might see the beauty of the good in this hard life, rooted in the hope of God’s endless love.
In addition, the website noted that Mikala Albertson seemed to have a “perfect” life as a family practice doctor, wife, and mother.
But the website also revealed that her entire world was falling apart. Albertson was married to an alcoholic and drug addict while taking care of their two young kids and finishing residency. As further explained on the website, the author reached her limit and gave up.
At her breaking point, she learned she had been running after something that did not exist. Albertson emphasized, “Perfect is Pretend.” The website added that she needed to accept what was ordinary: good, hard, messy, beautiful, simple life.
According to the Ordinary on Purpose website, the book was released on March 8, 2022. Alberson wrote on her blog that she was excited to share the book with her readers.
Beauty of Ordinary Life
On the same website, Albertson confessed that she always desires a perfect life. She said she wants everything to be perfect: marriage, title, children, house, job, and family.
Albertson revealed that she was desperate with the thought that she would be enough. So the doctor thought that if she worked hard, she could be one of those women who inspired others.
The website stated that while Albertson was pursuing perfection, her husband got addicted to drugs and that she struggled as a family-practice doctor and a mother.
As further explained on the website, Albertson started stumbling in life. She became lost, and everything about her life felt broken. She noted that the more she thrived on her way up, the further she would fall.
She realized that she did not want perfection after all when she surrendered. Albertson wanted an “ordinary life.” Then she added that when God entered the picture.
She teamed up with God by her side to fight, try, fail, and forgive. As further revealed on the website, with God, Albertson was able to show up and let go all over again.
In her testimony, she wrote on her website that her husband has been in recovery for 13 years. She said she stays at home with their five children together.
She revealed that the world is a liar, and perfection is a pretense because life happens in simplicity.
