First United Methodist Church San Deigo (FUMCSD) anticipates having a week-long, half-day summer camp return with their Food Truck Party Vacation Bible School (VBS) from July 11 to July 15.

The church's event section noted that they are looking forward to holding campers grades PK-5.  They also invite members to join them as they would have a full of games and learning activities. Besides, these programs would be focused on Matthew 6:11, which says, “Give us this our daily bread.”

They stated that this Scripture would help participants to remember that everything they have comes from God and to turn to God in prayer for their daily needs to be given.

The church announced that there would be $40 per kid, but volunteers are free. They included snacks and a T-shirt. Also, the church asks for volunteers to make the VBS successful.

Children’s Growing Center

FUMCSD founded the Children’s Growing Center (CGC) to educate the whole child, as posted on the CGC’s website. They revealed that during the first five years of life, an individual forms an introductory pattern of life skills.

At the center, they mentioned giving a high-quality program that nurtures each child’s development during these vital years. The growth of the “whole child” is significant.

They noted that their educational approach emphasizes a child's physical, emotional, and social skills. They also enrich their cognitive and spiritual maturity. Their program is planned and implemented by their quality staff, as posted on their website.

More importantly, they believe in the value of an educationally-developed environment to navigate a child’s ability to investigate, explore, and experiment. Also, the children could learn through play.

Parent Involvement

The website noted that the center is highly parents. They said that their involvement in a child’s educational process benefits their kids and the school. The gifts of parental participation are strongly advised and greatly appreciated at CGC.

Besides, the center stated that each family in their program must serve on a minimum of one fundraising or event committee during the year. They also need to join CGC programs, as posted on the website.

Fostering the “Whole Child”

The CGC thinks nurturing the “Whole Child” growth includes spiritual maturity, as posted in another section. They are conducting Chapel Time and VBS. They revealed that they began as an extension of the FUMC in Mission Valley. They host chapel time and VBS weekly as a part of their ministry.

They stated that children would have a 20- minute Chapel Time every Wednesday morning. During the year, the center mentioned having a theme for every chapel service. Children would listen to a short bible story, sing songs, and pray.

The center accommodates families of various religions, so their stories have moral lessons. They said that these stories would benefit all their students. The teachers discuss moral lessons: kindness, loving, honesty, and being helpful.

Meanwhile, all the CGC children, age four and higher, are attending their VBS. During the week, children would learn the daily theme through bible stories and crafts. They would also enjoy games, singing, and snack time, as posted on their website.
