Foothills Christian Church will hold its medical mission trip to Guatemala on Jan. 15, 2023.

The church’s website encouraged members who are medical practitioners to participate in their mission. They ask members who are doctors, nurses, dentists, and hygienists to help them fulfill their mission in Guatemala.

Besides, they noted that they would also need PS, NP, and translators in the mission. They added that members who work in construction could also come and help in the church’s initiatives.

Global Missions

In another section, Foothills Christian Church stated that as a church, they understand their accountability to help in the Kingdom of God. They explained that they work with people and organizations passionate about serving their local neighborhoods worldwide.

In addition, they noted that they have various partners globally so they could spread Jesus’ hope in the world.

The same website highlighted the Scripture from Matthew 5:14, which says, Believers are the light of the world. They are the city set on a hill that could not hide, as mentioned on the website.

The church emphasized that God called the church to minister in their community and to represent Christ’s love to other countries.

Merlo Foundation, Guatemala

The Merlo Foundation, Guatemala, is one of the partners of Foothills Christian Church in fulfilling its mission. According to their website, the organization exists to nurture the sick and help the disabled.

Carlos and Nora Merlo, pioneers of the Merlo Foundation, noted that their mission is to offer more medicines and food as they partner with the Foothills Christian Church. They added that they desire to provide more therapy and clothing for needy people.

They mentioned that they seek to cultivate the individuals of Magdalena MP in Guatemala just like what Jesus would do. They seek to help the residents have better lives, as stated on the website.

Merlo noted that they aim to establish a medical clinic with more tools for a physical rehab center.

Guatemala Mission

Carlos Merlo stated in his preaching on the church’s Youtube video that he would travel with those interested in going to Guatemala for the mission. He expressed that residents were welcoming and prepared food for the volunteers.

Meanwhile, Merlo revealed all the people whom they were serving. They are doing a man named Lapo and a lady born without legs. He noted that the woman got raped and pregnant, yet her son took care of her.

He announced that the lady had passed away.

Moreover, they brought the children on a trip, and they were so excited to go out, as stated in the video. He emphasized that there were clowns who were vital for the kids in Guatemala.

The clowns are part of their team and evangelize by making jokes, as mentioned in the video.

Future of Medical Missions

In the video, Merlo emphasized that they desire to bring back the chicken coop program again. He explained that it would be $200 per coop with 25 chicks and 100 pounds of concentrated food.

He said that after 60 days, they could cut and sell them so they could give to families with 150 pounds of food.

In addition, he announced that the medical and dental clinics were operating again after the restrictions from the pandemic.
