Pastor Josh Martin, the lead pastor of Grace Church San Diego, taught 100 preschoolers last week at Grace Kids Preschool on how the good shepherd saved His sheep.
The church’s Facebook page posted on Saturday, Dec. 24, Martin used a giant candy cane to demonstrate the story of the good shepherd to the children.

As for the center’s mission, they aim to enrich the lives of families by establishing a child care center that teaches and encourages. Besides, as added on the website, they seek to provide an intentional learning space for young kids’ development.
Moreover, Grace Kids noted that they are particular in their program to prepare the kids for success in their school careers. They emphasized that they are unique from other centers that offer a play-based curriculum.
Besides, the center stated that parents would be satisfied with their curriculum guide, evaluation, and daily instruction. They added that they would be pleased with the center’s approach to early education.
More importantly, the website stresses that they are a faith-based center, so they present all its instruction through a Biblical worldview.
Jesus as Good Shepherd
The Got Questions website revealed that Jesus said in John 10:11 that He is the good shepherd. They added that it is a fourth of seven “I am” statements of Jesus written in the book of John alone.
As further explained, Jesus’ “I am” declarations direct to His unique, holy identity and purpose. They said that after saying He is “the door,” He proclaimed He is the “good shepherd.”
According to the website, “good” means “Kalos” in greek, which describes someone noble, wholesome, and beautiful. They stated it is the opposite of wicked, mean, and unlovely.
They said that Jesus talked about his inherent goodness, righteousness, and beauty when He called Himself the good shepherd. As someone who takes care of the sheep, He protects, leads, and cultivates His flocks, as further explained on the website.
Shepherd-dependent
The same website revealed that sheep could not protect themselves and entirely relied on their shepherd. They explained that sheep are always close to harm and the shepherd must always be watchful.
In addition, they noted David's story of killing a lion and a bear to defend his father’s flock as a shepherd boy. In the book of 1 Samuel 17:36, shepherds drive snow in winter, blind dust, and burn sands in summer for long lonely hours daily.
The website emphasized that the shepherd must endure patiently for the flock's welfare.
