Greater Trinity Missionary Baptist Church will participate in the Toys for Hope event, hosted by the Hope Leadership Academy (HLA), on Saturday, Dec. 17, in Barrio Logan, downtown San Diego.

The church’s Facebook page announced they look forward to seeing members join the toy drive.

Toys for Hope

According to the HLA website, the Toys for Hope Toy drive aims to collect 1,500 to 2,000 more toys by Saturday. They emphasized that every kid deserves to experience the Christmas spirit.

Besides, HLA encouraged volunteers to bless San Diego's needy families. They also explained that they are collecting new and unwrapped toys for children from three months to 16 years old.

In addition, the website advised those interested in donating that most of these kids want items like legos, remote control cars, and scooters. Others also like skateboards, science kits, and craft sets, as announced on the website.

The website said the children would highly appreciate board games, movie tickets, and gift cards.

As further posted, HLA needs volunteers during preparation and the event itself.

About Barrio Logan

The same website emphasized that Barrio Logan is a creative community with a rich historical culture.  They also noted that people in this neighborhood have strong family values.

More importantly, the website said that HLA started its first Academy at King Chaves in 2013. They noted that the effect of their initiatives on all generations is one thing they love about the community.

They explained that they admire how parents are dedicated to raising their families where they grew up. The HLA said they witness many students living with their parents and relatives, like their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

More about HLA

In another section, HLA stressed that they want to work together to give the kids the opportunity to thrive in a world filled with hope and happiness. They noted that Willie Briscoe pioneered HLA in the fall of 2010.

As further explained, he wants to serve the fatherless young people in the inner city. They said that Briscoe had experienced growing up without a father in his home. He wants to bridge that gap in homes around San Diego County, as the website mentions.

Moreover, HLA stated that they are a comprehensive youth ministry that aims to secure young people from not having a father at home in vulnerable neighborhoods. The Academy wants to support and guide teenagers and their families, as added on the website.

HLA emphasized that they seek to dismantle the cycles of divorce, poverty, and hopelessness.
