Harbor City Church runs a Griefshare care group where they walk alongside members experiencing the most difficult moments by meeting them virtually every Monday from 6:30 p.m to 8:00 p.m

The church website announced that the current group runs thru April 4, and the next group will be from April 11 to July 18.  The church also emphasized that members experiencing grief do not have to go through the process alone.

Furthermore, the website said that each session is self-contained, so participants do not have to attend it in the 13-week cycle meeting sequence, and they are welcome any time.

How Griefshare Works

“Going to Griefshare feels like having warm arms wrapped around you when you’re shivering,” said the Griefshare website

According to the said website, Griefshare groups meet weekly to help individuals face the struggles of losing their loved ones and moving toward rebuilding their life. They added that each session has three elements.

First is the Video seminar with experts, where each week, the said group will watch a video seminar highlighting top experts on grief and recovery topics, the organization noted. They also added that these videos are produced in an engaging television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies, dramatic reenactments, and on-location videos.

Afterward, the organization informed that participants would spend time as a support group after the viewing session, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and their experiences in their lives.

Lastly, the website mentioned that during the week, each participant would have the chan to utilize their workbook for further personal study of the grieving process to help sort out emotions through journaling. Then, the group will discuss the workbook study, they added.

Who Should, Should not Come

The said organization stated that the said care group is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. They emphasized how they understand that other losses create feelings of grief, such as losing a job, divorce, estrangement from a child, or a friend moving to another place. However, these are not the purpose of Griefshare sessions.

Being Part of Griefshare Recovery Group

The organization reported that most people quickly feel comfortable and accepted in their GriefShare group. They said people who joined this care group found that others have the same feeling and understand the hurt they feel and the loss they have experienced.

The website provided an overview of the Griefshare experience where those who felt nervous about joining the group for the first time experienced a warm, caring environment. They also added that those who felt isolated found that they were not alone and others understood their situation.

More importantly, the featured speakers on the Griefshare videos had gone through the same suffering that motivates them to be experts on grief recovery subjects and case studies, said on the website.

Participating in the said care group could also be one of the healing processes where individuals could share their pain, for they included a time to talk about the said videos and their personal experiences, the organization stated.
