Kensington Church will work with Cana and Genesis Churches as they host the "Warming Center" in Royal Oak at Genesis Church from Sunday, Jan. 22, to Saturday, Feb. 4.

The church’s Facebook page posted that the churches will offer a place for people who need food, clothing, and shelter to stay at night. They noted that the weather becomes colder and the homeless become more marginalized than ever.

Moreover, the church emphasized that they anticipate working with its Move Out Team, WAVE Project. They noted that it is good to witness their teams working together to show their love for their community.

Ways to Help

According to the church’s post, members could get involved in various ways. They noted that they could host overnight or could be a greeter. They could also volunteer as a shower attendant or distributor of snacks and drinks.

In addition, Kensington Church encouraged its congregation to assist in setting up and cleaning up at the center.

The Kensington Church’s website revealed that their partnership with other local churches in offering a place for those in need had been ten years. They explained that they have been offering food, clothing, and a warm shelter to sleep in during the coldest season of the year.

Besides, the website mentioned that they would need volunteers and donations for the Warming Center. They said they needed daytime hosts for the weekend and people who could give transportation to their guests.

According to Genesis Church’s website, they need 20 volunteers for 14 nights. They explained that those interested in helping would need training on Jan.19.

The church noted that those who wish to volunteer as an overnight host, greeter, and part of the medical team are mandated to have the training. Volunteers for Clothing and Washing feet are also asked to attend on Jan. 19, as added on the website.

About Genesis Church

At Genesis Church, they believe that each follower of Jesus has a particular purpose. They explained their belief is rooted in the Book of Romans 12:4-5.

In addition, the church highlighted the Scripture from Galatian 3:28, which says, “There is neither jew nor Gentile, there is neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female.  The Scripture emphasized that everyone is all one in Christ Jesus.”

The church stressed that they hold on to this verse to welcome everyone. They explained that the verse shows God’s welcoming characteristics as followers of Jesus.

Moreover, the church believes that walking towards Jesus is easier and more effective if they do it with others. They added that it would be better to have people of love with voices of hope. Besides, it would help them to become more like Jesus, as further stated.

More importantly, the website noted that the congregation at Genesis Church takes instructions and teachings of the Bible seriously. They mentioned that God does not only want to dwell in them but also to look thoroughly into them.
