Single, dating, engaged, or married; all are encouraged to attend the Marriage Night hosted by the King’s Cross Church on June 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Soledad Club.
The church’s announcement features Ben and Lauretta Paterson as the event’s speakers. They noted that the couple would share wonderful marriage counsel based on their long years of experience being married.
Meet Ben & Lauretta Paterson
According to the Zondervan website, Ben Patterson is the chaplain at Westmont College. For nearly 25 years, he served as a pastor. Then he wrote the book Waiting, He Has Made Me Glad. Paterson also contributes regularly to Leadership and he is the editor of Zondercan’s Prayer Devotional Bible.
Meanwhile, he has been married to Lauretta for 38 years. They have been partners in marriage, family, and ministry, as posted on the website. They noted that Lauretta has found prayer and laughter to be the most certain way to deal with the disconcerting change. Patterson loves to teach and is mostly found disciplining small groups of learners on campus. She also loves leading women in Bible studies or opening her door to friends and visitors.
Balancing Church, Family, Personal Time
“In the long run, I contribute to the church most by being a man with a good marriage and a reasonably healthy family.” says Ben Patterson in his article.
Christianity Today website revealed an article written by Patterson himself. In the said column, he noted that people may call it hanging out, but in their family, they call it “oozing‘ which means nothing in particular to do, everything in general, they do whenever they feel like it. He added it’s the polar opposite of the way the rest of their lives are lived.
He also noted that others, they complain when they have nothing to do, but for them, they are celebrating. Patterson added that with G.K. Chesterton, they never had enough of nothing to do. Their family loves to ooze. He said they collect like hidden treasure those days when they can just watch television and start reading but never complete four or five books and a dozen magazines. They walk around town, talk, and drink coffee.
King’s Cross
The church posted on their Story section on their website that they thought of their name and wanted a name that communicates what the church is all about. They noted that they also wanted a name that was timeless and honored the past while looking forward to the future.
They emphasized that “King’s Cross Church” vividly defines what they are about. They said that they are all about Jesus, the King of kings, who lived a blameless life, died on the cross, and rose again to save sinners. Jesus brought sinners together as his church.
The same webpage revealed that their mission is to know Jesus and to let Him known by others. They added that their mission and calling as a church is rooted in Matthew 28:16-20, the Great Commission.
The church also noted that they are a community comprised of individuals knowing Jesus and always seeking to let others know Him.
