As the war in Ukraine continues, Light Church plans to help refugees, particularly the displaced children. It partners with Father House in Ukraine to house children with families in San Diego for the next few months.

Light Church, Save Children

The church, through its website, informed its members about plans of receiving and housing children from Ukraine. It provided an interest form that members could fill in.

As shared on its webpage, the interest list will help Light Church prove to the U.S.

Embassy that it can accommodate these children.

As stated on the webpage, if the church can prove that they have the resources, then there is a high possibility that it will be receiving and housing Ukrainian children soon.

The church estimated that around 50 – 100 children might need housing for about three months. When members fill in the form, they are making a contract.

The contract states that they have the desire, means, and interest to take in a child or children. Moreover, the Light Church will also send out a formal application and conduct an interview.

It will also provide training if its members want to continue with the application. Light Church desires to ensure that volunteers are well prepared, and the child is entrusted to the right home as shared on the web page.

Light Church understands that not all willing to take in a child could do so. Nonetheless, it is grateful for the support it receives.

According to the church, there are various ways to help and support families and children over the coming months.

Father’s House, Ukraine

Light Church partners with Father’s House, an orphanage in Ukraine, for hosting children refugees. Through this partnership, the church plans to receive and house Ukrainian children.

This endeavor seeks to help those who have been displaced. According to the website, the plan is to help Ukrainian children refugees, for three to six months.

As per its website, Father’s House in Ukraine, there was an unexpected increase in the homeless population in Kyiv in the mid – 1990’s. Children were living anywhere in the streets.

The number was greater than the number following the Second World War. According to the webpage, Dr. Roman Korniiko established the Father’s House. Dr. Roman Korniiko and a group of volunteers organized daycare centers, canteens, and hygiene stations, where homeless children could go to have their hair cut, take a bath, and have their injuries treated.

Father’s House is where homeless children can wash or replace their clothes and shoes. According to the website, Dr. Roman wanted to do more. He knew these children needed a place to come in the evening, eat, and sleep, where adults would be waiting for them.

The doctor began with his own home and rented several apartments around Kyiv to serve such a purpose.

From its beginning over 20 years ago, the Father’s House grew to become an integrated system of projects and programs that works to solve social problems in Ukraine – including homelessness.
