The MET Community Church invites congregants to join them for a day-long MCC Global General Conference from July 2 to July 3.

The church’s Newsletter announced that individuals of MCCs worldwide meet every three years. They worship, learn, motivate, and do business with the church.  This year, the conference is being made available online. This event would allow everyone to attend, as posted on the website. The church mentioned that they would be providing local gatherings without any charge.

Besides, they added that there would be live worship and keynote speakers at the said event. They continue to work to destroy systemic racism by participating in the “Be Holy: Reclaiming Holy Black Identity” live panel.

The church also announced that the congregation would have the chance to hear from the main speaker,  Rev. Dr. Claudio Carvalhaes. He is a professor of Worship at United Theological Seminary on “Being With God.” Also, he would talk about other sacred ways, as mentioned on the website.

Rev. Dr. Carvalhaes

An earth thinker, theologian, liturgist, and artist, this is how the General Conference (GC) website described Rev. Dr. Carvalhaes. They emphasized that he is a native Brazilian. He finished his doctorate in Liturgy and Theology at Union Theological Seminary in New York in 2007.

Moreover, they said that in 1997, Carvalhaes earned his first Master of Philosophy degree in Theology, Philosophy, and History at Methodist University. At the same time, he finished his Master of Divinity from the Independent Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1992.

They added that Carvalhaes was the  Associate Professor of Worship at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Recently, the website said that he taught at McCormick Theological Seminary.

He was also a professor at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. Then he taught at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. The website highlighted that Calvalhaes is an ordained shepherd in the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.

Transformational Weekend

“Be Not Conformed. Be Transformed,” says Romans 12:1-2.

In another section, they noted the general conference is where they genuinely live out their dedication to inclusion and justice. The webpage added that many MCCers worldwide joined as possible to experience the empowerment of being in the community. In this event, members would also have the joy of being spiritually changed.

The website also highlighted that the Global General Conference 2022 is a courageous experiment. They are making a genuinely global general meeting. They said this pandemic is a great moment to see new possibilities and opportunities.

The webpage noted that almost everyone is dealing with this situation for the first time. Sometimes people may need to move out of their comfort zones.

They informed those interested that there would be two phases in the said conference. First, their meeting would take place online and with watch parties worldwide. Then the second part would be the business meeting that would also take place online.

They said they welcome everyone to the conference and do not need to be a member of an MCC Church. They encouraged ministry leaders, staff, board members, musicians, and regular members to attend. Visitors and friends are also welcome to participate in the said meeting.
