Women’s Gathering, Some Good Conversation
Throughout February, Mission Hills UCC is hosting Some Good Conversation featuring Womanist Theology. As shared on its Instagram, the church invites all ladies to join on Zoom during Tuesdays in February.
The Womanist Theology meeting will provide engaging, some good conversation. The participants will view it with Barbara Holmes.
Barbara Holmes, Speaker
According to The Work of the People webpage, Barbara A. Holes is a spiritual teacher, activist and scholar focused on African American culture, mysticism, cosmology, and spirituality.
Before she was called to the ministry, Barbara Holmes worked as an early childhood educator, a professional actor, and a corporate lawyer in Georgia, Florida, and Texas. Holmes was President Emerita at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities from 2012 – 2016.
Additionally, she served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Memphis Theological Seminary from 2005 – 2010. Dr. Holmes was ordained in the Latter Rain Apostolic Holiness Church in Dallas, Texas.
She serves in the United Church of Christ and has recognitional standing in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She has also worked with homeless missions, international ministries, and HIV/AIDS support groups.
She is an author who has published articles and is a famous speaker and lecturer.
Mission Hills UCC
Mission Hills UCC desires to change the world through its outreach and worship, as stated on its website. It encourages everyone to join their faith community and build a more compassionate and loving world.

Ministries at Mission Hills UCC
The Diaconate Ministry at Mission Hills UCC reaches out to members and friends experiencing challenging times, had a significant loss in their lives, was hospitalized or homebound due to illness.
Mission Hills UCC, through this ministry, assists families with memorial services and receptions. It also organizes a group of Prayer Partners.
They pray for the requests of all requesting a prayer. Mission and Outreach Center is active in helping people and working for the community. According to Mission Hills UCC, its variety of outreach programs include Special Delivery, Rolling Readers, Feeding San Diego distribution, and SNAP registration.
It also serves through Uptown Faith Community Center. Monthly gatherings happen at Mission Hills UCC, where members and friends meet deeper.
What is Womanist Theology?
The Christian Century defined Womanist Theology. It declares a future beyond the strongholds of injustice, sexism, and racism. It also described Womanist Theology as deeply grounded in the long, prolific history of black women’s traditions of survival, and thriving rituals, and fight against white racism and patriarchy,
Finally, at the heart of this faith is love.
