Feeding Mission Hills Program of Mission Hills United Church of Christ (MHUCC) distributed 176 bags of food with a budget of $1000 at Jackdaw St. San Diego on July 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
The church’s Facebook page posted that in just 20 minutes, their volunteers gave out the bags to those in need.
Feeding Mission Hills
The church’s website stated that they are obeying Jesus’ teaching. They believe in what Jesus said: if people serve those who are usually ignored, they serve Him. They added that they are doing initiatives in their neighborhood to help God’s creation thrive.
One of the church’s programs is Feeding Mission Hills. They conduct a community food distribution every third Tuesday morning.
Opportunities to Serve
On another church webpage, the church noted that members have the chance to serve the wider community. They mentioned that members who want to join their ministries could be assigned to a specific program based on their interests and strengths.
Besides, participants could be chosen for a ministry where each team has a chairperson. These leaders represent the ministry as part of the Church Council, as posted on their website. They also said that chairpersons are part of the lay leadership and governing body of MHUCC.
Mission and Outreach Ministry
In line with their ministries, the church stated that they take an active part in helping individuals in their neighborhood, whether near or far from them. They said they plan to lead volunteers in various outreach ministries.
These outreach programs include rolling readers and exceptional delivery. The church also hosts Feeding San Diego food distribution and SNAP registration support. They also said that they have the Uptown Faith Community Service Center, which gives food, counseling, and service to their neighbors living on the streets every month.
Meanwhile, the website revealed that MHUCC is also a “5 for 5 Congregation,” which means they help all UCC Offerings to support their global mission programs. They also take part in assisting educational programs and justice and witness efforts.
Besides, the church highlights that they give financial aid to retired clergy and church workers. The Mission and Outreach sponsor Alternative Christmas so they could provide a donation concerning a loved one to chosen local foundations.
MHUCC’s Guiding Principles
According to the MHUCC’s Guiding Principles, they are witnesses, which means they walk their talk to show God's love for everyone. Congregations desire to be the light and hope in a hurting world. The website noted that the church encouraged people to join them as they discover a more profound understanding of God because they believe He is still speaking today.
More importantly, the church is led by God’s Spirit. They believed God’s spirit opened their hearts and minds as they studied the word. The congregation listens to their experiences with each other and seeks spiritual guidance, as posted on their website.
The church also emphasized that Jesus called them to serve others who are homeless, troubled, and lost. They follow this guideline by having a lot of ministries to help the vulnerable.
