As the church wants to have a missional journey, Mission Trails Church, in partnership with the Street of Hopes, feeds and prays for the homeless community in San Diego.
The church joined together to make sandwiches on the front patio around 11:40 A.M on March 6, then on the following day, at 5:30 P.M, the group head downtown to give the prepared food and connect with the homeless as posted on the church’s website.
Mission for Homeless of San Diego
The Street of Hopes believes that the genuine transformation happened through relationships in the community. They aim to build a community where those who have much could serve and give to those in need, as mentioned on the organization’s website.
Furthermore, they explained that they see the homeless as brothers and sisters- fellow children of God. Many of the workers and volunteers at Street of Hopes have an overflowing Spirit of God alive within them and working through them. However, they mentioned that they also welcome everyone into their community regardless of their beliefs or where they live.
Streets of Hope- Monday Night Routine
As posted on the said website, every Monday night from 6 P.M to 8 P.M, the Street of Hope, together with the other volunteers, serves the homeless in San Diego’s downtown.
They pass out bags of food, water, encouragement, and other items. The said organization also invites more volunteers to help them give hope to the homeless on the streets of San Diego.
On the said post, they mentioned that they gather at the sidewalk located at the Northside of Smart & Final Parking Lot at 720 15th Street, San Diego.
They also mentioned the things to expect from the said event. They believe those who choose to serve the homeless could gain new experience on what it means to give to others, and also they assure that it will be safe. The said organization also added that from helping the San Diego homeless community, the volunteers would come back to have another experience while making new friends.
Volunteer’s Testimony
The San Diego State University (SDSU) joined the Streets of Hope San Diego to serve the homeless by passing out food, clothes, toiletries, and more on a written report on February 10, 2020.
According to Noah, one of the groups who volunteered, these people living on the streets are people with stories, feelings, and love and are entirely discarded by society. He added that participating in the Streets of Hope reminded him of their innate right as humans to be treated humanely.
He added that it is easy to donate money or clothes to an organization, mainly because most can do so. However, it takes more effort and keeps someone humble to interact with people living on the streets within their city.
Moreover, he stated that those who are fortunate enough to go home with a roof over their head each night or those who are unaware of food insecurity forget homelessness is a human issue.
