Newbreak Church will run a blood drive from Jan 12 to Nov. 9 at the Tierrasanta Campus.
The church’s website announced that two scheduled shifts will be available and children will be welcome to serve with their parents or guardians. They explained that those interested would need to register and complete their forms during the blood drive.
Besides, they posted that they welcome those who would walk in, but their priority is those who have set appointments. The church advised members to book a schedule through the San Diego Blood Bank Donor Portal to skip the line.
San Diego Blood Bank
According to the San Diego Blood Bank, they officially dedicated their headquarters on Nov. 15, 1972. They stated that the goal was a community initiative to sustain San Diego Blood Bank.
Dr. Jonas Salk mentioned during the ceremony that the structure and organization made it possible to show care and respect for the human individual. He added that the Blood Bank symbolizes excellent health and power in the community.
In addition, the website explained that the headquarters structure was dedicated at 3636 Gateway Center Avenue on June 22, 2011.
They said the building also honors blood donors Jerry Sanders, San Diego City Mayor, and Greg Cox, San Diego County Supervisor. Also, they dedicated that headquarters to blood recipient and former Chargers Hall of Fame kicker Rolf Benirschke.
Moreover, Benirschke stressed that there should be a hundred percent commitment to maintaining the community’s blood supply through the San Diego Blood Bank.
Primary Blood Provider
The same website emphasized that the Blood Bank is a nonprofit organization that provides blood primarily to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. They added that they serve as a safety net for regional hospitals.
In addition, the group serves hospitals in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, as mentioned on the website.
More importantly, they highlighted that they give over 150,000 units of blood annually to patients of all generations—socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds across Southern California. They stated that these patients are suffering from life-threatening medical situations.
As further explained, some patients struggle with cancer and other blood diseases. Others also have severe burns, organ transplants, urgent surgery, and trauma, as added on the website. They reported that there are also patients that had childbirth complications and more.
Research at San Diego Blood Bank
In another section, the San Diego Blood Bank noted that they provide various products for researchers in academia and biopharmaceutical businesses. They explained that some products include whole blood, white blood cells, and platelets.
They said that they offer plasma and serum components for studies and quality control.
The blood bank mentioned that they had processed all their products under complete consent for non-human subject research use from their donors. They added that they collected under cGMP compliance standards.
As further stated, the blood bank has an experienced group of experts and scientists that are open to discussion, planning, and study application to researchers. They added that they invite and embrace firm interactive connections with their partners and clients.
