The children's ministry at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church invited kids from preschool to grade 12 to join its Back-to-School Barbeque program on Sunday, Aug. 28.
The church’s announcement posted that it could be a fall celebration as the children prepare for new grades in school, new activities, and fun. They added that there would be food such as hamburgers, hot dogs, and more.
Children at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church would enjoy video game trucks. They could play “GaGA Pit” and more, as posted on the website.
The church also informed members that there would be a voluntary offering during the event. As further explained on the website, those interested could also give their donations online. These donations could help the ministry cover the program's cost.
Children at Point Loma
The church’s children's ministry offers worship for the kids while their parents or guardians attend the Sunday service. The Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church has a children's center facility. They accommodate preschoolers through grade five.
The website posted that the church encouraged kids in grades one to six to join its new choir, bells, and drama activities. They meet every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The church announced that these programs would begin on Thursday. Sept. 15.
At Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church, they train leadership skills in a Christian way, as mentioned on the website. They also want each community member to connect deeply through music and team building.
The website noted that the church hosts activities for kids to express themselves and drama programs. The church explained that children could widen their knowledge of music. They could also improve their vocal techniques during these activities.
More importantly, the church said their children presented with an adult choir and orchestra. They do this presentation in their yearly Christmas Concert. They would hold this event on Dec. 4. They added that members of the kids' choir would lead music in Sunday worship services and at Christmas Eve Family Service.
Back-to-School during COVID-19
The San Diego Union-Tribune news website reported that parents are concerned about the increase of Delta variants. They are worried if their kids will be secure at school.
The news also revealed that some parents dislike wearing face masks. They noted that some are trying to discredit the usage of covers.
Yet, professionals stressed that wearing masks is the most vital preventive measure. It could avoid the spread of COVID-19 after vaccines, the website added.
The Union-Tribune interviewed experts from the local American Academy of Pediatrics chapter.
Josef Zwass, a neonatal medicine specialist, said that as long as schools take all the proper precautions, students can be safe at school. Zwass noted that schools should encourage students and staff to wear masks. They should also increase classroom ventilation.
More importantly, school officials who started the new school year last year said that the cases of COVID-19 came outside of school facilities. They reported hundreds of cases last year.
The only thing parents can do now is to work with their communities, as stated by Jaime Friedman, a pediatrician and spokesperson for the local chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She added that they could contribute to making a secure place to help schools be safer for their children.
