Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church to visit Cygnet Theater's set

Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church (PLCPC) encouraged its members to join their tour at the Cygnet Theater to see what happens behind the scenes on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

The church’s Facebook page announced they would get an exclusive tour from Cygnet Theater workers and PLCPC members, Sarah and Patrick Maron. They added that they would also have a Question and Answer portion after their visit.

Theater Set-up

The church’s announcement mentioned that Sarah works as the Wardrobe Supervisor and Patrick in the Music director for a lot of the production in the theatre. They added that they are a part of the currently airing “Cabaret” and the upcoming show, “A Christmas Carol.”

Moreover, in this tour, members would discover various characters and see the backstage at the theaters, as further explained. 

Music, Art Ministries

According to the church’s ministry section, Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church continues to produce a long-standing culture of giving excellent music. 

They mentioned that Alicia McMillian, the Director of Worship and Music, leads the team to have an active and energetic music program. They added that they have programs for children and adults at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church. 

Music on Sundays

The same website revealed that the church values music as a vital part of worship. They explained that Martin Luther once regarded music as a beautiful present. They emphasized that Luther said music is a reminder that humans are created to praise and exalt God.

Moreover, the church noted that their Classic Service could allow their congregation to enjoy traditional hymns. McMillan performs these hymns while Bryan Verhoye plays the piano, as further stated on the website. 

Besides, they added that New Covenant Choir joins the classic service. They play modern hymn arrangements with the church’s worship band twice a month, as further posted on the website. 

The Music and Arts Ministry also featured Ringers ReJOYce and the children, and youth choirs also sing on some Sundays.

More importantly, they posted that the Café Worship Band performs motivational and new songs from “today’s top Christian artists.” They sing at the Café  Worship Service in the chapel on Sundays at 10:30, as noted on the website. 

In addition, they said that RO Smith leads the team, and they are very passionate musicians. 

Christmas Concert

According to the Music and Arts Ministry, they host a grand Christmas Concert for their community every year. They stated that the New Covenant Choir and Children’s and Youth Choirs work together with the members of the San Diego Symphony.

The website said that McMillan and Verhoye are the highlights of the spectacular event. It is a night filled with their favorite carols and orchestral creation, as noted on the website. Besides, the Ringers ReJOYce English Handbell Ensemble also participate in the concert.

They stated that Ann Simoneau directs the said merriment.

Meanwhile, the website revealed that the Ringers ReJOYce English Handbell Ensemble was established in May 1974. They have presented at many events around San Diego. 

They added that they often work with Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church to develop their Sunday morning worship services and other programs.
