The Student Exchange Ministry of the Rock Church looks for loving Christian families who would like to extend the love of Jesus by opening their home to a teenager from Spain this coming July. The registration starts on June 1 and runs until June 7 at Greater San Diego.

The website announcement said students would arrive on June 27. So they encouraged members interested in signing up to do so on the same site.

Student Exchange Ministry

The church posted on their website that they also support the Student Exchange Ministry. According to this ministry section, Summer in the USA (SUSA) is a one-month English immersion. It is also a cultural exchange experience in July. They added that they put the Basque teens from Spain with families and churches that like to express God’s love by accomodating students.

Hosting Student

The Summer in the USA website noted on their Host page that they believe it is an effective way to allow God’s love to flow. They could do this by simply welcoming students into their homes. They added that families could express this life-transforming hospitality by inviting Basque students to become a part of their family for the whole month of July.

They noted their program began with a family who shared their lives and love with a teenager from Basque.

Besides, a month of hosting a student is not easy, but it is also much more possible to do than other people think, as revealed on the webpage. They added that families might have discovered some hidden merits, such as living in a community with other families from their church. Also, they could experience another culture and feel like the student has become a part of their family.

Moreover, they added various families who had great experiences hosting students for one month. These families are busy with children and going on vacation, and even they think their families are boring.

What Host Family Needs To Do

The said website informed those interested in filling out their online application and attending one or two training sessions before the students arrive. They would provide helpful information from their area leader. During the said training, families would learn about picking the student up from the airport and activities they could do for their host family group.

The website noted that having a student is like having a son or daughter for a month, so families can provide them with lots of love, food, grace, and fun. They mentioned that if the student needs to visit a doctor, the area leader will guide them through that process. They would assist host families by using the student’s travel insurance, so they would not be accountable for any bills.

Moreover, they ask host families to provide a space for their students to call their own, such as a bed, a desk or chair, and a dresser. They could also share a room with American siblings. There should also be a parent or a responsible young adult to be with the student at all times.

The website also suggests host families spend time with the students so they can practice their English through various activities.
