Saddleback Church will start a new series about “better than perfection” on Sunday, Jan. 8, at all campuses and online.
The church’s Facebook page posted that progress is more important than perfection.
About New Series
According to the church’s website, Lead Pastor Andy Wood would talk about choosing better things to keep them from moving closer to Jesus and each other.
On the website, they explained that everyone wants to develop and achieve their goals, but perfection is difficult when it is part of the culture and values. They added that people feel pressure to push for a perfect life.
As further noted, individuals try hard to have perfect relationships, bodies, and reputations. They emphasized that these efforts lead to becoming burnt out and disappointed. Also, the website stresses that people could have worse results than what they started.
The website stated that people could grow without striving for perfection and aim to for becoming better instead of being perfect.
Resources for Improving
On the website, the church shared resources to help members improve in various aspects of their lives.
They explained that instead of running after perfection, they could take intentional steps to be better in every part of their lives.
Saddleback Church provided seven spiritual, financial, and physical aspects.
In addition, those interested in improving their emotional and relational skills could also find some tools on the website. They added that they could also learn more tips about their vocation and education through the given resources.
Resources for Spiritual Needs
The church’s website offered 12 resources to help its members improve their spiritual life. They suggested that they could read the Build a Bible Reading Habit. This material is Saddleback’s enriching 40-day guide, as the website explains.
They could also use the Be Refreshed by God’s Word, the church’s The Well Podcast, as noted on the website. Also, they added that members could use the Build a Prayer Habit, the church’s daily prayer prompts.
Moreover, those who want to practice reading the Bible and praying could use the Learn the Practice: Reading the Bible Prayerfully, as further mentioned. They said that this material is a discipleship Podcast.
Perfection
The church’s YouTube video revealed that striving to have the perfect job, body, house, and relationships feels unmeasurable. They added that having an ideal life is unimaginable.
They asked people if they could admit that becoming perfect was a lie. They emphasized that becoming the person they are designed to be is a process.
In the video, they emphasized that it happens step by step and day by day. The speaker noted that becoming who they take small goal at a time.
In addition, they said that even failures are part of the process.
More importantly, they stressed that humans could never be perfect, but with God’s help, they could be better. The video also noted that it is tiring to become excellent and makes life more difficult.
The video emphasized that “Better is better than perfect.” They encouraged members to join in learning this process through the series.
